Bbaek Ga confessed that she is a descendant of independence activist Jin Hee-chang.
On the 15th, a new video titled "The story I couldn't tell until now…" was posted on the YouTube channel Bbaek Ga Unni.
That day Bbaek Ga said, "I have something important to say today. There is something I have never brought up on broadcasts or YouTube. In fact, my great-grandfather on my maternal side was an independence activist."
Bbaek Ga said, "Really, I have not told even our members who have worked together for more than 20 years. So today I thought I would tell that story for the first time. Before that, my late mother often told such stories while she was alive. "Seong-hyeon, our family is actually a family of descendants of an independence activist. Don't be intimidated anywhere and live with pride in your heart," she often said."
She continued, "The reason I never brought this up is that I worried that by mentioning my great-grandfather's name I might seem to be riding on his achievements or that it might give such an impression. And it's a very sensitive story. So I never said it even once," she explained as she opened up for the first time.
Bbaek Ga said, "Today is Liberation Day. I have heard that descendants of independence activists have lived in financial hardship for a long time, but in the past I was not in a position or had the capacity to help anyone," and she explained, "Now I am somewhat able to do so, so if there are descendants who are in difficult circumstances or need help, I wanted to bring this up to offer assistance."
Explaining about her great-grandfather, Bbaek Ga said, "His pen name was Gyeongrim, and his Chinese characters are Jin Hee-chang. He was one of the important independence activists who supported the finances and operations when the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea was in Shanghai."
She then mentioned her great-grandfather's achievements and the situation of independence activists at that time, and later displayed a subtitle that read, "Even while crossing borders, independence patriots never once had passports in their nation's name. We will not forget the noble dedication of all independence activists who devoted their bodies to the country," expressing her gratitude.
