Director the late Ahn Pan-seok will rest in peace amid colleagues' mourning.
Today (15th) at 9:30 a.m. the funeral procession for the late director Ahn Pan-seok will be held at the Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) funeral hall in Jongno District, Seoul. The burial site is Seoul Municipal Funeral Home.
The late director Ahn Pan-seok died on the 12th after battling a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 64. It had been reported that he had collapsed last month from a cerebral hemorrhage and was receiving treatment. At the time, the production company said "recovering," but the sad news arrived in just over 10 days, increasing the sorrow.
Colleagues who had ties with the deceased also expressed their condolences at the sudden parting. Back Ji-yeon, an announcer who entered MBC the same year as the late director, posted a photo of Ahn Pan-seok on her social media immediately after the news of his death and mourned, "I wish the deceased eternal rest. Please rest in peace. He was a wonderful director and a very good friend."
Kim Hye-eun said, "Director, who gave me the honor of working together on the work 'Secret Affair.' I wanted not to be ashamed before you. I regret that I could not finish the last work with you. I feel such a loss that my heart aches," revealing her heartfelt feelings.
She added, "Director Ahn Pan-seok, who nurtured the height of my heart. I will not forget your words. Please rest peacefully in heaven," expressing her longing for the deceased.
Jeong Ryeo-won, who worked with director Ahn Pan-seok on his projects, also looked back on memories with the deceased in a long memorial post. Jeong Ryeo-won said, "Director.. I still can't believe it. I had prepared myself, but I still don't really know what I feel," and added, "Thank you for igniting a spark in the hearts of many actors. You have no idea how hard actors worked because they so wanted to receive your 'first-place' stamp. I was happy to be able to spend the whole shoot with that feeling."
She continued, "Thank you for teaching me to live close to writing. Thanks to your insistence on doing less rather than more, the essence began to appear. I now somewhat understand why you focused more on being than doing. Thank you for not compromising on certain things on set until the end," conveying her gratitude to the deceased.
Jeong Ryeo-won added, "Ah… I was really holding back. I cried a lot at the Beatles song played at the funeral hall. Director, be at peace," and eventually showed tears.
Kim Hee-ae also mourned, recalling the filming sites she shared with the deceased. Kim Hee-ae said, "Seeing all of us laughing while watching the monitor, it really seemed like a happy set. Thanks to the director, I was able to work on two good projects together," she said.
She remembered the deceased, saying, "Director, who recognized my acting and gave me precious opportunities, I sincerely thank and respect you."
The team behind the late person's final work, the film 'Love Doctor' starring Choo Young-Woo and Kim So Hyun, also expressed their condolences. The 'Love Doctor' side said, "The bereaved family, who are in deep sorrow, wishes to have a quiet time to say goodbye to the deceased, so we ask the press to cooperate as the funeral process will be held privately," and added, "Once again we express our deep condolences on the deceased's passing and respectfully wish the deceased eternal rest."
Joining MBC in 1987, the late director Ahn Pan-seok built his own color by directing numerous works such as 'White Tower,' 'The Wife's Qualification,' 'Secret Affair,' 'Heard It Through the Grapevine,' 'Something in the Rain,' and 'Graduation.' In particular, he received the Baeksang Arts Awards directing prize in 2007 and 2014 for 'White Tower' and 'Secret Affair,' respectively.
In works such as 'Secret Affair,' 'Something in the Rain,' 'One Spring Night,' and 'Graduation,' he was also called a 'melodrama master' for deeply portraying the delicate emotional lines of the characters.
