Musical actress Hong Ji-min pours her deep feelings for her father, independence activist Hong Chang-sik, into the stage.
Today (15th) broadcast on KBS 2TV 'Immortal Songs' (directed by Kim Hyung-seok and Choi Seung-beom, hereafter 'Immortal Songs') episode 769 is presented as a special for the 81st anniversary of liberation titled "81st anniversary of liberation: the unnamed devotion, immortal songs." While reexamining the lives of six lesser-known independence activists, Hong Ji-min X Yang Jun-mo, Seo Moon-tak, Ji Seon (loveholic), Hanhae X La Poem, Kim Junsu X An Yae-eun, Lim Kyu-hyung and other six teams will appear to present tribute performances.
On that day, 52 descendants of independence merit recipients were specially invited as the panel of classic song judges, adding significance.
Above all, Hong Ji-min, who is actually a descendant of an independence activist, draws attention as a contestant. Hong Ji-min's father, Hong Chang-sik, belonged to the secret organization Baekdusanhoe and, at the young age of 16, carried out a mission to blow up Japanese military supplies, was imprisoned for violating the maintenance of public order law, and met liberation while incarcerated.
Hong Chang-sik, who was from the northern provinces, reportedly did not tell even his family about his independence activities after liberation because he feared becoming entangled in sharp ideological conflicts. Hong Ji-min said, "I also only learned about my father's past independence activities after he received the Order of Merit for National Foundation, the Medal of Patriotism," which surprised many.
To Hong Ji-min, her father was a man who loved music and books and enjoyed sharing before he was an independence activist.
Hong Ji-min said, "In fact, in my memory my father was more a dad who loved music and books and liked to share than an independence activist," and added, "He died when I was about 20, so before that I didn't know much about his independence activities."
She confessed, "I'm upset that I couldn't tell him how proud I was of him enough," revealing her longing for her father.
To express the feelings she failed to convey, Hong Ji-min chose to perform In Soon-yi's "Father." She plans to fully convey on stage her gratitude and longing for her proud independence activist father, Hong Chang-sik, who remained in her heart throughout his life.
Especially since Hong Ji-min is the daughter of an independence activist and the stage directly honors her father, expectations are high that a more sincere performance than ever will be completed.
Also, 23-year musical veteran Yang Jun-mo will provide support fire for Hong Ji-min's stage. Yang Jun-mo is the actor who famously played Ahn Jung-geun in the musical Hero, which depicts the life of Ahn Jung-geun, and will appear on stage for the first time through this "Immortal Songs."
Yang Jun-mo said, "I'm so honored to appear on 'Immortal Songs,'" and added, "I'm here today 100% to support Ji-min nuna," showing his special loyalty to Hong Ji-min.
