Actor Kang Bu-ja confessed that she handed all financial control to her husband Lee Muk-won and lives on an allowance.
The national actress Kang Bu-ja, who has graced living-room theaters for nearly 65 years, becomes tearful recalling painful memories about her son on MBN's Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night.
Kang Bu-ja reveals on the 38th episode of MBN's Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night, airing on the 15th (Sat) at 9:40 p.m., the story of her son, who had just entered middle school and was hospitalized for as long as six months. Moreover, she said viewers were shocked when she explained that her son's condition, with a severe infection in the hip joint, worsened to the point that he faced a life-or-death crisis. Kang Bu-ja recalled, "My son almost died after developing sepsis as well," and after remembering the time added, "When I think about it now I still cannot speak," conveying her distress.
But Kang Bu-ja soon shared the comforting news that her son recovered his health and is now a researcher at a U.S. medical school, and she even revealed a happy family photo taken when she was 70, creating a heartwarming moment.
Kang Bu-ja also made the surprising confession about their household finances: "My husband manages the income, and I receive an allowance to spend." She said that since their marriage her husband, actor Lee Muk-won, has managed the household income, and when her allowance runs out she even asks, "Give me a little more allowance. I don't have enough allowance," which made everyone burst into laughter.
Kang Bu-ja candidly recounted that she married actor Lee Muk-won after a four-year secret workplace romance and they have been together for 59 years. When a photo of Lee Muk-won in his youth was shown, the hosts exclaimed, "He's so handsome. Your husband is good-looking," but Kang Bu-ja reacted nonchalantly, saying, "What does a man's face matter?" which sent the audience into loud laughter. Separately, Kang Bu-ja said on the 2024 broadcast of tvN STORY's Chairman's People that she mentioned early appearance fees at the launch of TBC, adding, "My goal was to buy an apartment in my third year of activity and a car in my fifth year, and I achieved both. The house wasn't some shabby place; it was an apartment. When the jeonse was 100,000 won I bought for 345,000 won," she said. She said she was the first resident to move into the large 700-unit apartment complex located in Dongbu Ichon-dong, Yongsan-gu at the time.
Kang Bu-ja, who said she indulged herself to some extent, added, "The first thing I bought when I had money was a bag. It wasn't designer; I bought antiques, and when I moved there were 300 bags," and surprised listeners by saying, "I didn't accept product placements even when I did dramas. I prepared all the bags that fit the roles myself."
