G-Dragon's agency donated 500 million won to the Juspeace Foundation to mark its artist's birthday.
G-DRAGON's agency Galaxy Corporation donated 500 million won to the Juspeace Foundation, sharing G-DRAGON's philosophy of supporting future generations.
Juspeace Foundation (honorary chairman G-DRAGON) and Galaxy Corporation will hold "JUSPEACE DAY 50" to support 50 young artists on G-DRAGON's birthday, Aug. 18, at Galaxy Robot Park in Seoul.
This project started from G-DRAGON's long-expressed wish to "create more opportunities for artists and support future generations."
In particular, this is significant because the agency, Galaxy Corporation, did not stop at the artist's personal goodwill but donated 500 million won and provided exhibition space, expanding the artist's philosophy into corporate social contribution.
It showed a new partnership model that does not limit the relationship between entertainment corporations and their artists to management and business collaboration, but has the agency invest in and implement the social values the artist pursues.
Since launching the SOP competition to discover emerging artists in December last year, the Juspeace Foundation has continuously discovered promising emerging artists through events such as LOOP PLUS Busan and the BAC art fair "JUSPEACE FOCUS."
The works of the 50 selected young artists will be sponsored based on Galaxy Corporation's 500 million won donation and will be on permanent display throughout Galaxy Robot Park. Through this, Galaxy Robot Park will be used not only as a future technology space to experience robots and AI but also as a cultural and arts platform where emerging artists' works continuously meet the public.
At the "JUSPEACE DAY 50" event, a "wall of hope" will allow visitors to find the artists and works that moved them and leave messages of support. Some works will meet new owners through charity auctions, and the revenue will be used again for public interest activities for future-generation artists.
Oh Hee-young, president of the Juspeace Foundation, said, "One of the most necessary supports for young artists is creating opportunities for their work to meet the world."
Through this project, Galaxy Corporation plans to create a sustainable social contribution model with the Juspeace Foundation that follows "discovering artists → sponsoring works → permanent exhibition → connecting with the public → creating new opportunities."
Separately, in Oct. 2023 G-Dragon was wrongfully accused of drug allegations and after a detailed examination by the National Forensic Service, all tests returned negative. The police then did not indict G-DRAGON, who had been booked without detention on drug charges under the Narcotics Control Act, and cleared his name in about two months.
G-DRAGON drew attention by founding the Juspeace Foundation to fight drugs and donating the first 300 million won while taking the lead in public interest activities. Since then, he has expanded the meaning and scope by supporting young artists and considering ways to support future generations.
