Actor Byun Yo-Han directly revealed why he appeared in "Gyeongju trip" with no guarantee.
On the afternoon of the 13th at Lotte Cinema World Tower in Seoul, a press screening for the film "Gyeongju trip" was held. Attending were lead actors Lee Jung-eun, Kong Hyojin, Park So-dam, Lee Yeon, Byun Yo-Han, and director Kim Mi-jo.
"Gyeongju trip" (written and directed by Kim Mi-jo, provided by Lotte Entertainment·Michigan Venture Capital Co., Ltd., distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by Studio High Five, co-produced by Euphoria ENT) depicts a family revenge drama of four mothers who, for the youngest daughter Gyeongju who did not return from a school trip, set out on a "killer" journey after eight years of waiting. It is director Kim Mi-jo's first commercial film, who, with her debut "Seagull," was recognized for strong directing at prominent domestic and international film festivals, and it has drawn attention by receiving an invitation to the Hawaii International Film Festival and the audience award at the Florence Korean Film Festival even before release.
In the film, Lee Jung-eun passionately plays Ok-sil, a mother who dreamed only of revenge for eight years after losing her daughter; Kong Hyojin plays the eldest daughter Jang-ju, who cherishes the family dearly; Park So-dam plays the second daughter Young-ju, a law school graduate who is the brains and currently unemployed; Lee Yeon plays the third daughter Dong-ju, a former wrestling athlete; and Byun Yo-Han plays Baek Sang-hyun, who took the youngest daughter Gyeongju from the family.
Above all, Byun Yo-Han appeared in "Gyeongju trip" with no guarantee. It was a project produced by the PD of his first commercial film "Will you be there?", so he was naturally drawn to it, and reports say he appeared to lend some support in the sense that he could work with seniors and juniors including Lee Jung-eun.
Byun Yo-Han said, "I have memories with the head of the production company of 'Gyeongju trip' from when I first debuted in commercial films. That connection is one reason, but there was a good script and good actors," and added, "I did four works with senior Lee Jung-eun, and every time I met her the inspiration I received was great, so I had a strong desire to work together. Senior Kong Hyojin was someone I was such a fan of. So when casting news came out saying we were together, I thought 'there was no reason for me not to do this.'"
He continued, "Actress Park So-dam is an alumna of Korea National University of Arts. She performed very skillfully and neatly since school. I wondered, 'How much more has she grown? How much have I grown through her?' Actress Lee Yeon seems like an innate actor. When I saw her acting through media, I thought she was really good," and added, "When I looked at the four of them, their charms were different but I felt their energy. I cautiously participated to grow."
Visually he also underwent a radical transformation in the film, and Byun Yo-Han laughed, "It's hard for me to say this about myself, but the director said, 'It would be good to get rid of Byun Yo-Han's handsomeness.'" Director Kim Mi-jo replied, "We met at a meeting and I was so surprised by how handsome he was. I asked, 'Is there no way to reduce the handsomeness?' After discussion, the senior actively offered opinions, so we were able to do a radical transformation," to which Byun Yo-Han credited the director, saying, "Thanks to the director."
Meanwhile, "Gyeongju trip" opens on the 26th.
