Global IP content studio EO Contents Group presents the mystery horror thriller film "Underground (UNDERGROUND)", suggesting new possibilities for K-horror content.
The film "Underground" will be released on the 13th through major IPTV and OTT platforms, including the three IPTV providers (KT·LG·SK), cable TV VOD, KT Skylife, Wavve, Coupang Play and Watcha.
"Underground" is a mystery horror thriller in which vengeful spirits who died in an accident appear before Seunghyun, the construction team leader who returned to the subway extension construction site where work had been halted after a fatal accident during construction. Set beneath the familiar urban space of the subway in the closed-off area called the "underground" that no one could easily access, it depicts extreme horror unfolding on the border between life and death. It also weaves in human guilt and social messages, promising genre entertainment that goes beyond simple scares.
The lead is played by actor Shin Hyun-su, who left a strong impression through the drama drama "After School War Activities". Iyoo, Ko Gun Han, Park Hyun-young, Moon Seong-bok, Jung Hyeong-seok and Hong Seong-pyo, among other distinctive actors, join to raise the film's tension and immersion.
In particular, the release of "Underground" is meaningful because it is not just a single horror film. It is part of a continuation of the horror IP strategy that EO Contents Group has built over several years.
Earlier, EO Contents Group drew attention from domestic and international genre fans with the global high-teen horror film "Gangryeong: Ghost Play", which created a buzz in theaters last summer. It proved K-horror's global competitiveness by receiving love calls from world-class film festivals such as the 58th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and the 31st Lund International Fantastic Film Festival.
The mystery horror film "Focus" was also officially invited to the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN) Korean feature competition for its original subject matter and level of completion. In particular, by advancing both "Gangryeong: Ghost Play" and "Focus" to BIFAN's competition section in succession, it has increased its presence in the domestic genre film market.
The company has continued its genre competitiveness in drama as well as film. "Night has fallen," produced by EO Contents Group, ranked No. 1 in Netflix Korea's drama sector and achieved results on major overseas platforms such as Japan's Amazon Prime Video, VIU Indonesia, Thailand's MONOMAX and Vietnam's K+, confirming its potential in the global market.
It also embarked on new attempts with the drama drama "Death Code," produced entirely using 100% generative AI technology. By combining AI technology with a mystery thriller set in a prison housing multinational inmates, it attracted attention as premium AI content.
In this way, EO Contents Group continues a strategy of accumulating and expanding horror·thriller IP while steadily producing horror and thriller content spanning films and drama. Rather than simply producing horror works, it is focusing on building franchise IP that can expand a single universe and subject into various forms of content.
The next lineup also targets the global market. EO Contents Group is currently preparing projects such as "DM: Death Message" and "Four Seasons: The house of the murder spirit" as next-generation premium horror projects.
Each work is based on different subjects and universes but shares a common genre direction of combining realistic fear with Korean sentiment. By integrating AI technology and a global IP expansion strategy, the plan is to nurture content that can be expanded into various formats including films, drama, series and short form.
OO Eun-young, CEO of EO Contents Group, said, "Horror is not simply a genre that creates scary stories but content that can most intensely capture human emotions and society. Based on the genre experience accumulated through "Gangryeong: Ghost Play", "Focus" and "Underground", we plan to continuously present more global premium horror IP going forward," and added, "Through new projects such as "DM: Death Message" and "Four Seasons: The house of the murder spirit", we will further broaden the spectrum of Korean horror content and build a competitive K-horror franchise in the global market."
