Hollywood actor Brad Pitt (62) reportedly broke a seven-year streak of sobriety and started drinking again, and the reaction from his ex-wife Angelina Jolie (51)'s camp has been made public.
According to the Daily Mail on the 11th (local time), a close source to Angelina Jolie commented on Brad Pitt having resumed drinking after he recently declared in an interview with a media outlet that he had ended his sobriety, saying, "Jolie was not surprised by this situation at all."
A close source to Jolie said, "Jolie has long tried to warn people and always knew there was a possibility Pitt's sobriety could be broken," adding, "She has long believed that simply quitting drinking does not eliminate the underlying problems Pitt has." The source added, "Jolie does not believe Pitt has fundamentally changed, and in her view no period of sobriety or change in image will alter his true nature."
Earlier, in an interview with British Esquire, Brad Pitt made a startling confession: "I stopped drinking for seven years but have started drinking again," shocking fans around the world. He explained, "I drink in a more restrained way than before. I cannot drink as much as I used to and only enjoy a few drinks," and said, "I have to manage it professionally."
Pitt's alcohol problems have been cited as a decisive cause of the breakup with Jolie and conflicts with their children. The two separated after allegations arose in 2016 that Pitt, intoxicated on a private jet, verbally abused and assaulted Jolie and the children. Afterward, Pitt attended Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings and maintained seven years of sobriety, but ultimately began drinking again.
The couple's lengthy divorce and legal battles concluded after eight years, but their relationship with their children has not been restored. Recently, their children — including daughter Vivienne as well as Shiloh, Zahara and Maddox — shocked observers by consecutively filing legal procedures to drop their father's surname (Pitt) and use only the surname "Jolie."
In the interview, Pitt also revealed that he suffered extreme pain over the estrangement from his children and the "family issues," and at one point felt so much suffering that he wanted to give up on life.
Meanwhile, amid the bitter family history, Brad Pitt is continuing an open romance with jewelry brand executive Ines de Ramon, who is 26 years his junior, and is busy filming upcoming projects such as Heart of the Beast and The Adventures of Cliff Booth.
