Actor Kim Hye-soo gave a cheerful response to Kim Ji-hun's remarks.
On the 13th afternoon at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno District, Seoul, an interview with actor Kim Hye-soo for Coupang Play's The Affair Was Just The Beginning took place.
The Affair Was Just The Beginning is a black comedy of successive collisions in which a popular influencer couple who sold a happy family and a neighboring doctor couple embroiled in a muddy divorce lawsuit become intertwined by an uncontrollable secret that makes even an affair seem trivial, triggering a rampage. First released on July 31 and currently airing, The Affair Was Just The Beginning (hereafter "The Affair") features Kim Hye-soo as Kyung-hee, a successful influencer, whose realistic acting and bold styling have drawn popularity.
On the day, Kim Hye-soo said of The Affair receiving great love, "I am very grateful and relieved," adding, "Honestly, I did not expect (the popularity). Among the scripts I've recently read, this one was particularly fun. Though it's a black comedy and suspense drama, the incidents shown in our drama are not particularly special. It's a material used in many dramas, but how it transforms was unique. Such works are rare. The script had the power to make you focus on the characters and the story."
The character's own glamour also drew attention. Kim Hye-soo said it had been 17 years since she played such a glamorous character, since SBS's Style in 2009. She explained Kyung-hee, "Because the drama itself is a work with weight, this time the character's identity was a picture-perfect family and a successful influencer. She wears a glamorous exterior; the character projects the desire to protect her family and to succeed."
She added, "We looked at successful influencers from the very basics and examined what their commonalities were. Those who succeeded in interior design have an innate sense, and we looked across various fields. We looked at interior design, home remodeling, cooking, flowers, and fashion, and the commonalities were communicating intimately with the public, boldly revealing daily life, and growing with support. From the early stages, they recognize this person and grow together, and we brought some of those characteristics."
Separately from Kim Hye-soo showing glamorous styling in The Affair, when asked if the modifier "glamorous" seems attached to her name, she guessed, "I do have a very glamorous image, right? I have hosted film festivals for a long time, so wearing a dress every year isn't ordinary. I think that left an impression."
She elaborated, "When showing glamour as a character, you must be careful not to ride on the personal image someone has. Even if you prepare that way, from the viewers' perspective who see it as that actor doing it, it is not all filtered out. So rather than my appearance, I listened a lot to the stylist's advice, and I chose a method of modeling many influencers and celebrities to make the appearance somewhat similar."
Earlier, Kim Ji-hun said in an interview that his goal was to earn recognition from Kim Hye-soo while acting as a couple. When this was conveyed to Kim Hye-soo, she joked, "Did he really say that?" and expressed, "I take that remark that way. Ji-hun is an actor who has had potential for a long time and has survived until now, but it seems that despite good conditions, various opportunities were not provided."
Kim Hye-soo added, "So when this script came, there must have been acting he wanted to show, and the person who checked him up close was me. I think the public is the same. I'm grateful and pleased that Ji-hun's specialized image has expanded. An actor always seems to have some external milestone. Hasn't it expanded into breathing more about growth or parts previously known only to him? As a fellow actor, I'm thankful and pleased."
Kim Hye-soo also spoke about Kim Ji-hun, "Ji-hun is very honest, unpretentious and healthy. I think an actor's basic temperament starts from the human's innate nature, so when Ji-hun acts, he prepares each thing with that temperament. If he thinks something is good, he tries to let people around him and anonymous audiences know that it's good. You could call it meddling, but I really like how he tries to share good things together."
