Actor Hwang Jung-eum has divorced but is still in contact with her ex-husband for the sake of their children.
On the 12th, a video titled "A day of home cooking with super simple braised short ribs & tonic water kkakdugi" was released on Hwang Jung-eum's YouTube channel.
The video shows Hwang Jung-eum cooking using a braised short ribs recipe recommended by an acquaintance. Having gone grocery shopping from Yongsan to Gangnam, Hwang Jung-eum packed snacks for the children and even carefully bought ingredients for fruit punch to eat the next morning.
After returning home, she had to prepare the cooking to match the children's after-school arrival time. A novice cook, Hwang Jung-eum attempted to make kkakdugi for the first time in her life but ran into trouble starting with slicing the radish. Making kkakdugi using tonic water instead of cider, Hwang Jung-eum marveled at herself, saying, "I am heading toward the true path of cooking."
Meanwhile, as the children returned home, Hwang Jung-eum's cooking again faced a crisis. When her son looked for ramen, Hwang Jung-eum firmly said no and tried to feed him braised short ribs.
When her eldest son asked if he had a computer account, Hwang Jung-eum said "no." When the son asked, "Then make one for me," Hwang Jung-eum said, "Mom can't do that. Ask your father to do it," mentioning her ex-husband Lee Young-don. The son then called Lee Young-don to ask about the computer account. It turned out that Lee Young-don appeared to have purchased computer supplies for the sons, and he communicated with Hwang Jung-eum without discomfort.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-eum married former professional golfer and businessman Lee Young-don in 2016 and gave birth to her eldest son in 2017. In 2020 she filed for mediation to proceed with divorce proceedings but withdrew the application the following year and reconciled, then gave birth to her second child in 2022, but they divorced in May 2025.
On a variety show, Hwang Jung-eum explained the reason for the divorce as "because I wasn't happy," saying, "After getting married my energy was very good, but it seemed to change into a depressing and bad energy, and that was very hard. Because the children should not feel that kind of energy, I had no choice but to choose divorce. Saying I'm sorry to the children does not express everything."
