The film "Odyssey" (director Christopher Nolan) wrote an unprecedented box office miracle by seeing ticket reservations surge in its second week after release, beginning to solidify its August reign at the box office.
On the 12th, according to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) integrated computer network (as of 1:01 p.m.), "Odyssey" achieved the feat of surpassing 800,000 ticket reservations. This figure far exceeds the advance reservations (430,000 tickets) recorded one day before release. Contrary to the usual pattern of declining reservation rates upon entering the second week after release, it is drawing attention as it traces a steep upward curve riding a word-of-mouth craze.
Earlier, director Park Chan-wook praised it as "a film that superbly reinterprets a great story," and critic Lee Dong-jin called it "a hexagonal cinematic monument built magnificently," attracting attention; "Odyssey" has held the No. 1 overall reservation rate for 10 consecutive days and topped the box office for seven consecutive days. During the opening weekend (Aug. 7–Aug. 9), its seat occupancy rate also swept first place at 64.1%, proving the box office phenomenon.
Along with the box office craze, a special broadcast appearance is also scheduled. Today (the 12th) at 8:45 p.m., tvN's You Quiz on the Block will feature director Christopher Nolan and actor Matt Damon appearing in person to join MC Yu Jae-seok in a variety of conversations about the film, adding to the buzz.<
