British heartthrob actor Nicholas Hoult (36) has joined the season 2 casting lineup of HBO's highly anticipated Harry Potter reboot series, signaling a striking transformation.
According to foreign outlets Deadline and the Daily Mail, Nicholas Hoult will play Professor Gilderoy Lockhart in season 2 of HBO's Harry Potter series. Gilderoy Lockhart is the defense against the dark arts professor who appears in the original Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets; he is a boastful yet oddly lovable so‑called sexy villain who steals others' accomplishments and uses memory‑modifying magic. In the 2002 film, Kenneth Branagh played the role and was much loved.
The Harry Potter series, which had season 2 confirmed even before the first season was unveiled, will begin full production this fall.
Nicholas Hoult, who demonstrated a wide acting range as Lex Luthor in the film Superman (2025) and in dramas Skins and The Great, has already drawn intense global interest over how he will portray Professor Lockhart in his own style.
Meanwhile, HBO's Harry Potter series has confirmed the new trio casting led by 11‑year‑old newcomer Dominic McElhinney (playing Harry Potter), along with Alastair Stout (playing Ron Weasley) and Arabella Stanton (playing Hermione Granger), and is set to release season 1 this Christmas. Seasoned actors such as John Lissag (playing Albus Dumbledore) and Janet McTeer (playing Professor McGonagall) have also joined, raising expectations.<
