An Pan-seok, a master of the Korean drama world, has died.
Director An Pan-seok passed away on Aug. 12 after his health deteriorated while battling a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 64.
The production team of the drama "Yeonae Baksa" told OSEN that day, "We are delivering heartbreaking news. Director An Pan-seok passed away on Aug. 12, 2026, at the age of 64."
They added, "We ask for earnest cooperation so that the bereaved family, who are in deep mourning, can hold private funeral proceedings and quietly say farewell to the deceased without reporters present," and "Once again, we express our deep condolences on the passing of the deceased and respectfully pray for his soul."
It was previously reported that Director An Pan-seok collapsed last month due to a cerebral hemorrhage and received treatment. At the time, the production company said, "He is currently recovering. Filming has finished and the editing work is complete."
The late director joined Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) in 1987 and directed dramas such as "Gogae Sugin Namja," "Jjak," "Jangmi wa Kongnamul," "Ajumma," and "Hayangeotap." He also created numerous hits, including the dramas "A-naeui Jageuk","Milhoe","Pungmun-euro Deureosso","Something in the Rain","Bomban","Jol-eob","The Art of Negotiation," and was called a master of the Korean drama world. In 2006, he also served as director of the film "South of the Border."
Director An Pan-seok directed the new drama "Yeonae Baksa," starring Choo Young-Woo and Kim So Hyun, which is scheduled to premiere in October, and the work became his final production.
