Comedian Jeong Cheol-gyu revealed that a senior verbally abused him for six years during his past appearance on Gag Concert, and he responded to online speculation.
Recently, Jeong Cheol-gyu appeared on the YouTube channel Namumiki Detective Agency and confessed that he had endured verbal abuse from a senior for about six years.
That day he confessed, "That senior must have hated me. Every time I came into the meeting room he told me not to stand out and said things like he would kill me. He did this for six years. It was very hard."
Jeong Cheol-gyu said that at the time Shin Bong-Sun and Ahn Young-mi helped him, and that Park Joonhyung tried to dissuade that senior. Jeong Cheol-gyu lamented, "When I felt like a useless person who was not valued anywhere, my self-loathing was at its worst," saying, "As my spirit started to fall, I couldn't sleep and took antidepressants and sleeping pills."
However, the perpetrator's name was not revealed in the video. Afterwards, internet users mentioned names of people suspected to be the perpetrator, and eventually Jeong Cheol-gyu left a comment on social media himself, drawing a line by saying, "Ryu Dam-hyung, Noh Woo-jin, and Kim Jin-chul senior are frequently mentioned, but to tell you the conclusion first, it's not them."
He explained, "Woo-jin is a junior and also a close friend. I have hardly had any conversations with Ryu Dam-hyung. And Jin-cheol hyung was someone who didn't nag me, and we are still close."
In particular, Jeong Cheol-gyu added, "If you watch this entire video, the perspective is that I went through that process in the past, overcame it, and now live happily and diligently. Thank you."
Meanwhile, Jeong Cheol-gyu gained great popularity in 2004 on KBS2's Comedy Club with the immigrant worker character Blanka from Sri Lanka.
