Hollywood top star Brad Pitt (62) candidly confessed that he broke a seven-year period of abstinence from alcohol and has started drinking again.
According to Page Six's report on the 10th (local time), Pitt recently spoke candidly about his drinking and his feelings in an interview with the fashion magazine Esquire.
During the interview, while offering wine to the reporters, Pitt smiled and said, "I quit drinking for seven years, but I'm drinking again," drawing attention. However, he emphasized that it was not like in the past, saying, "I drank once or twice out of complacency and realized, 'Ah, this doesn't suit me.' In a restrained way, I don't drink large amounts." He added, "A few drinks are fine, but not a lot. I have to manage it professionally."
Pitt's abstinence began after the 2016 "airplane incident," which became a decisive catalyst for his divorce from his ex-wife Angelina Jolie. At the time, allegations arose that he had assaulted Jolie and their children while intoxicated, and the two became legally separate in 2019 before finalizing their divorce proceedings in 2024.
Afterward, Pitt first revealed in a 2019 interview with The New York Times that he was attending the 12-step alcoholics anonymous program (AA). He confessed, "Because I went as far as I could, I stripped myself of the privilege to drink." He also recalled on a podcast last year, "I was on my knees and broken at the time. I had to pull myself together, and I was greatly inspired by the honesty of people at the self-help meetings I went to," reflecting on the difficult process of recovery.
In particular, in this interview Pitt said he suffered extreme mental anguish during the divorce from Angelina Jolie and the estrangement from his children, evoking sympathy. Currently estranged from his eldest, Maddox, and his other older children, he revealed, "There was a time when I was really struggling with family issues; I experienced extreme depression and even had suicidal thoughts."
He conveyed without restraint the painful feelings at the time, saying, "I didn't actually attempt to act on it, but I could feel the cold touch of a bullet in my mind, and that sometimes felt like relief."
Meanwhile, born in 1963, Brad Pitt has been maintaining his status as a leading Hollywood actor through constant acting work, including his recent role as a racer in the film F1.
