With confirmation that actor Ha-young's great-grandfather was a council member of a pro-Japanese organization, the replay of the variety show that mentioned the family has been removed.
On the 11th, OSEN confirmed that episode 323 of KBS2 Problem Child in House, which aired on the 7th, had its replay service suspended at the broadcaster's request.
It was reported to be at the broadcaster's request, but the exact reason was not disclosed. However, it appears to be due to allegations of pro-Japanese activities concerning Ha-young's great-grandfather who appeared in this episode.
On Problem Child in House, Ha-young said her family had been doctors for four generations and that her great-grandfather had treated Emperor Gojong. After that, speculation followed that Ha-young's great-grandfather might be Ahn Sang-ho, and allegations of pro-Japanese activity arose over his actions.
Ahn Sang-ho enrolled at the Tokyo Jikei Medical School in Japan in 1898 and passed the medical practice examination in 1902, after which he returned home and opened a Western-style clinic. In particular, an article in Maeil Shinbo, the journal of the Japanese general government in 1918, raised suspicions of pro-Japanese activity, saying that Ahn Sang-ho had married a Japanese wife and was following a Japanese way of life.
Ha-young's side said that although Ahn Sang-ho is indeed the great-grandfather, the pro-Japanese activities are "unfounded." However, just one day later on the 11th they reversed their initial position and said, "As a result of additional verification, we confirmed that there is an actual record showing that great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho's name appears on the 1916 Daijō Chinmoku-kai council member list. We sincerely apologize for causing confusion by hastily answering 'unfounded' without sufficient verification."
Ha-young's side said, "Through this matter we have deeply realized how careful verification must be when conveying historical facts and an individual's background to the public," adding, "Ha-young also deeply reflects on causing concern because of this matter, and will approach things more carefully and humbly going forward."
