Ahead of the one-year anniversary of the late Jeon Yu-seong, juniors in the comedy world honor the legend.
The 14th Busan International Comedy Festival (BICF) (hereinafter "Bukope") will be held from Aug. 21 to Aug. 30. Among the events, a performance planned by gag comedians who inherited the late Jeon Yu-seong's comedic spirit, "A Jeon Yu-seong show without Jeon Yu-seong," draws attention.
A Jeon Yu-seong show without Jeon Yu-seong features juniors who had deep ties with the late Jeon Yu-seong during his lifetime. Those who were especially close to him — Lee Hong-ryeol, Shin Bong-Sun, who learned comedy directly from the deceased, and Kim Shin-young, and the gag team Zoltan (Lee Jae-hyung, Han Hyun-min, Jeong Jin-wook), who received instruction at Jeon Yu-seong's comedy market troupe — naturally came together to mark his first anniversary.
The performance, presented in an omnibus format with 20 minutes per team, commemorates the late Jeon Yu-seong through a variety of comedy styles from different generations. The goal of "A Jeon Yu-seong show without Jeon Yu-seong" is to create a cheerful farewell where people can part with laughter rather than a sorrowful memorial.
In particular, all appearance fees for the performers in this show will be donated. A representative said the move was "intended to repay, even a little, the debt owed to the late Jeon Yu-seong, who tirelessly worked for the growth of comedy in Korea," and added, "They promised to donate to meaningful places honoring the deceased and asked for many audience members to participate in the time remembering and reminiscing about him."
