Actor Ha-young cancels interview for Netflix lead role Our Sticky Love.
On the 11th, OSEN reporting found that Ha-young decided not to do the interview for the Netflix series Our Sticky Love scheduled for the afternoon of the 14th in Samcheong-dong. Although it is Ha-young's first leading role on Netflix, she canceled because of controversy over her great-grandfather An Sang-ho's pro-Japanese activities.
Earlier, Jung Haein and Ha-young had decided to do interviews side by side as lead actors to coincide with the global release of Our Sticky Love. But recently allegations of pro-Japanese conduct surrounding Ha-young's great-grandfather surfaced, and as a result the interview was also canceled. Above all, with Liberation Day a day away, it was judged inappropriate for Ha-young to go forward with the interview and talk about her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese controversy.
Meanwhile, this controversy became a major issue after Ha-young mentioned her great-grandfather on the "Netflix Korea" channel on the 6th.
In the video Ha-young said, "I heard my father, my grandfather and my great-grandfather were doctors," and "As far as I know, he was the first to open a western medical practice in Hanyang. My older sister is also an internist." She boasted of being from a family of doctors for four generations, and the remark drew attention after it was reported in the press.
However, Ha-young's remarks backfired, and speculation arose that her great-grandfather was An Sang-ho, who worked as a doctor during the Japanese colonial period and is suspected of pro-Japanese actions, sparking an uproar. Ha-young's agency quickly drew a line, saying, "Ha-young's great-grandfather is indeed An Sang-ho, but the allegations of pro-Japanese actions are groundless."
In the meantime, past family history was exhumed, and on the following day, the agency Busters Entertainment said, "We would like to address the part we previously said was 'groundless.' As a result of additional verification, we confirmed that there is an actual record showing that Great-grandfather An Sang-ho's name appears on the 1916 list of council members of the Daejeongchinmokhoe. We sincerely apologize for causing confusion by hastily responding that it was 'groundless' without sufficient verification," acknowledging the pro-Japanese activities and apologizing.
Meanwhile, aside from the lead actor's controversy, Our Sticky Love itself is receiving love globally. It reached No. 1 on "Today Korea's top 10 series," and on the OTT ranking aggregator FlixPatrol it rose to No. 2 globally in the TV shows category in just four days.
