Actor Ha-young denied her great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions, then admitted them and apologized within a day, and Netflix made the scheduled video private without any explanation.
On the 6th, lead actors Jung Haein and Ha-young of the new Netflix series Our Sticky Love appeared on the Netflix Korea 넷플릭스 코리아 channel to promote the work.
That day Ha-young said, "My father and my grandfather and I heard that starting from my great-grandfather he practiced as a physician," and added, "From what I heard, he was the first to open a clinic for Western medicine in Hanyang. My older sister is also an internist." She boasted of a family of doctors for four generations, and the remark attracted attention after being reported.
However, Ha-young's comment backfired, and speculation arose that her great-grandfather was Ansang-ho, who practiced as a doctor during the Japanese colonial period and is suspected of pro-Japanese activities, causing a scandal. Ha-young's agency firmly rebutted, saying, "Ha-young's great-grandfather is indeed Ansang-ho, but the allegations of pro-Japanese activities are groundless."
But the family's past was exhumed, and the next day on the 11th, agency Bisters Entertainment bowed its head and said, "We would like to address the part we previously said was 'groundless.' After additional verification, we confirmed that there is an actual record with the name of our great-grandfather Ansang-ho listed on the 1916 Daijeong Chinmokhoe council member list. We sincerely apologize for hastily responding that it was 'groundless' without sufficient verification and causing confusion."
With the great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions acknowledged, Netflix Korea 넷플릭스 코리아 abruptly made private the second promotional video of Jung Haein and Ha-young that had been scheduled to be released on the 10th. In an earlier video they had previewed briefly while announcing, "See you on Aug. 10!" but apparently did not upload it, likely mindful of the controversy surrounding Ha-young and alleged pro-Japanese activity. They did not provide any reason or explanation for not releasing it.
Meanwhile, Ha-young has an official interview for Our Sticky Love scheduled on the 14th, the day before Liberation Day. Attention is focused on whether she will appear in person at the interview and speak with her own mouth. <
