Actor Lee Sang-yoon received applause for a powerful performance that filled the grand theater.
Lee Sang-yoon played the nobleman Bassanio in the play "The Merchant of Venice," which closed on the 9th at the National Theater's Haeoreum Theater in Jangchung-dong, Seoul, and completed the run to great success.
In this reinterpretation of Shakespeare's comedy, Lee Sang-yoon portrayed Bassanio, who takes risks for love, and skillfully conveyed the character's layered emotions as he struggled between love and desire, adding depth to the narrative.
In particular, performing a one-cast production, Lee Sang-yoon formed a seamless ensemble with senior actors such as Park Geun-hyung and Shin Goo, drawing audience immersion. Reviews said that even though it was his first challenge on a grand theater stage, he filled the space with exceptional energy and stable acting.
Through his agency, Lee Sang-yoon said, "On my first grand theater stage, encountering a Shakespeare work allowed me to discover new delights in acting," adding, "It was a great honor just to be able to share the stage with Shin Goo and Park Geun-hyung, and it was a precious time in which I could grow further as an actor," expressing a heartfelt reflection.
