Comedian Oh Ji-heon opened up about a childhood that was enviably wealthy and the family history behind it, and attention has again turned to his father, Oh Seung-hoon, who recently went on a blind date with singer Lee Sang-mi on a broadcast.
On the 9th, Oh Ji-heon appeared on MBN's overcoming story 'While you are ill' and recalled his childhood.
That day Oh Ji-heon revealed that his father earned a considerable income while working as a famous Korean history lecturer in the early 1990s. He said "my father's monthly income was about 50 million won. At the time an apartment cost about 30 million won" which surprised viewers.
Their standard of living matched the family's circumstances. Oh Ji-heon recalled, "We lived in a house of about 100 pyeong and there was a swimming pool in the yard. Friends pitched tents and played in our yard," and remembered that his father even had a personal driver.
But economic abundance did not necessarily mean happiness. Oh Ji-heon recalled, "My father prioritized work over family. My mother wanted my father to be devoted to the home, and as complaints accumulated the frequency of marital fights increased." Eventually, when Oh Ji-heon was a senior in high school, his parents divorced.
In particular, alongside Oh Ji-heon's confession, his father Oh Seung-hoon's recent broadcast appearance was reexamined. Oh Seung-hoon appeared as Lee Sang-mi's blind date on TV CHOSUN's The Lovers of Joseon in June, drawing attention.
At the time Oh Seung-hoon honestly expressed his fondness, saying he met Lee Sang-mi several times after the blind date. Even when Lee Sang-mi met other blind date candidates, she said, "I think it's good to meet many people," showing respect for the other person's choice.
He also sang live at a cafe and handed over a flower basket to convey his feelings. He comforted Lee Sang-mi, saying, "I hope it goes well, and if it doesn't I'll cheer from behind," and "Don't think about how others will feel; follow your heart." Moved by his consideration, Lee Sang-mi eventually showed tears.
Recently, through his son's words, the past when he was a famous lecturer earning "a monthly income of 50 million won," and his heyday when he had a house of about 100 pyeong, a swimming pool and a driver, have been revealed, drawing renewed attention to another past of Oh Seung-hoon.
