MBC variety show 'Best Peak' failed to overcome low ratings and came to an end after 12 episodes. Until the final moment, members continued with "survival pledges" to save the program, but extension ultimately failed, leaving a bittersweet feeling.
On the 9th broadcast, MBC's 'Best Peak' revealed footage of the members who went to Mani-san in Ganghwa Island for the final shoot.
On that day Heo Kyunghwan, facing the end of the show, expressed regret, saying, "We finally had a feel for things, but it seems to be ending now." He added, "Honestly, it makes me stubborn. Where else will you see this member, this configuration and combination? It's a matter of pride," showing his desire to protect the program.
Jang Dong-min also did not give up easily. He bristled, asking, "Who decides this?" then appealed, "This is an important timing for building a masterpiece of Korea's future K-entertainment. Please trust not only us but our juniors as well."
When the production team asked, "If extended, could you also go to Hallasan?" Jang Dong-min replied without hesitation, "Do whatever you want us to do. We can go." When demands arose that Yang Se-hyung and Heo Kyunghwan should reveal girlfriends on the program if they got one, Boom chimed in, "Will you even send them off to get married here? Let's do the wedding shoot and even the childbirth here." Escalating further, Jang Dong-min pledged, "I'll even hold a funeral first. Bury me on 'Best Peak'," making an over-the-top promise, and You Se Yoon said, "It's funny that we're still having meetings until the very last day," drawing laughter.
The production team said the extension decision would likely be made by the time the broadcast aired and proposed filming two versions of the ending. First, assuming extension success, the members cheered, "We did it," and, conversely, in case of extension failure, they took a group photo reminiscent of a memorial portrait. After checking the photos, the members said, "We look too sad," and expressed bitterness.
Jang Dong-min also made a final negotiation with the production team that decided the show's end. He said, "Whoever made the decision, let's talk straight," and added, "If the follow-up program performs worse than us, call us back. If you promise only that, we won't start a riot and will accept it willingly," provoking laughter.
Jang Dong-min's final farewell was also typical of him. He said, "Thank you for loving us for 12 episodes," but added, "Because you didn't watch well, I became unemployed. It's all thanks to you. I just can't understand it. Can't you at least tell your friends to watch?" expressing a cute reproach toward viewers.
You Se Yoon said, "The members gathered around last year's entertainment awards," and pledged, "Please wait to see us make some kind of incident and go together again at the 2026 entertainment awards. We will come back," promising a reunion.
The members, who gave each other applause and took the final slate for 'season 1', said, "This is not the end," and did not give up hope until the last. However, the program's fate revealed via a QR code at the end of the broadcast was ultimately "extension failure." The desperate survival story the members showed until the end left both laughter and a poignant aftertaste.
Earlier, 'Best Peak' held an emergency meeting and even issued an unusual public apology after ratings in the 1% range and some criticism about lack of fun continued. At the time Jang Dong-min appealed, "Please don't change the channel and save us," but the show ultimately failed to rebound and ended after 12 episodes.
