SBS's Friday-Saturday drama 'Flex x Cop2' delivered a satisfying catharsis to home viewers with a refreshing, justice-serving "Teach You a Lesson" aimed at descendants of pro-Japanese collaborators, breaking its own highest ratings.
According to ratings firm Nielsen Korea on the 9th, the second episode of 'Flex x Cop2', which aired the previous day (8th), recorded a peak rating of 9% and a 6.8% rating in the Seoul metropolitan area, igniting a full-scale surge in popularity.
In that episode, chaebol detective Jin I-su (Ahn Bo-hyun) and counterterrorism team ace Joo Hye-ra (Jung Eun-Chae) carried out a breath-taking joint investigation to solve a series of bomb attacks aimed at them. After their car plunged into the river and they miraculously survived, the pair tracked the suspect, seeing through the terrorist's sophisticated deepfake trick and true motive.
The decisive clue to the case came from Jin I-su's sharp deductive skills. He realized that the terrorist's goal was to blow up the floor of the fingerprint-recognition evacuation space in Jin Myung-chul's house, and the perpetrators' brothers were arrested at the scene.
The revealed details of the terror plot provoked both absurdity and laughter. What was expected to contain roughly 100 billion won worth of gold bullion turned out to be the family's disgrace: medals and other items belonging to pro-Japanese police officer Jang Deuk-su (Kim Eui-sung), who tortured independence activists during Japan's colonial rule. The self-destructive ending, which exposed the ancestor's pro-Japanese actions to the world while chasing a windfall, delivered a powerful, satisfying blow to viewers.
After the case was solved, a twist ending showed former enemies Joo Hye-ra formally assuming the post of Head of Team of Gangha-seo violent crimes unit 1. When Jin I-su, saying "This is a nightmare," recoiled, Jung Eun-Chae flashed a spirited smile and replied, "It's reality. Take care of me, you weirdo," heightening anticipation for the duo's upcoming full-fledged "jobdori" chemistry.
In particular, a cookie scene surprised viewers with the sudden appearance of Yoo Seungho (Yoo Seungho) standing in the reeds in the rain, exuding a mysterious aura that instantly captured attention. Earlier reports that Yoo Seungho would join 'Flex x Cop2' as the new villain had already attracted buzz.
Immediately after the broadcast, viewers sent explosive reactions such as "Ahn Bo-hyun's grumbling acting is also top-notch," "Jung Eun-Chae's uniform fit made my heart stop," "Kim Eui-sung's pro-Japanese cameo was perfect," and "Yoo Seungho's appearance alone completed the narrative."
