Broadcaster Kim Gu Ra's son GREE (Kim Dong-hyun) expressed unwavering affection toward his birth mother, who endured difficult times with him.
On the 7th, the YouTube channel '김그리' posted a video titled "The first trip with grandmother, a day when a wish came true."
That day GREE visited a five-star hotel with his grandmother and spent a special time. While traveling, when his grandmother asked about his birth mother, GREE said, "She is well. She lives far away in Jeolla-do, so we cannot meet often," giving an update on her condition. He added, "There is only me for my birth mother. I contact her often. I have to take care of her," and spoke plainly, revealing his affectionate feelings.
GREE also showed filial piety by preparing the suite and meals for his grandmother himself. When his grandmother repeatedly expressed admiration while looking around the hotel room, he smiled and said, "I wanted to show filial piety to my grandmother. I should do more."
Mentions of GREE's birth mother recalled the family history he had previously revealed. Earlier, while introducing a popular restaurant in Jeju on his YouTube channel, he jokingly said, "My mother fled to Jeju after taking on a large debt," then clarified, "90% truth, 10% joke," and confessed, "Since then I have frequently gone to Jeju and accumulated data on good restaurants."
Kim Gu Ra previously revealed that before his 2015 divorce he suffered financial difficulties because his ex-wife had debt of about 1.7 billion won. GREE also said that he used income from his childhood broadcasting activities to help pay his mother's debt, adding, "I gave my mother living expenses and supported my maternal grandmother's nursing costs. Sometimes I get annoyed, but after helping I feel relieved," expressing deep filial devotion.
Meanwhile, Kim Gu Ra remarried in 2020 to a non-celebrity 12 years his junior, and in 2021 he had a late-born daughter, Soohyun. GREE currently continues to keep in regular contact with his birth mother, showing unchanged family affection.
