Singer and actress IU is drawing controversy among netizens after selecting a song by her former boyfriend from a past public relationship, Jang Ki-ha, as background music in an SNS post.
On the 6th, IU posted several photos on her personal SNS with the caption "living life diligently," sharing recent updates. At that time, IU chose Jang Ki-ha and the Faces' "living without incident" as the background music and added a note about her current state.
However, IU and Jang Ki-ha publicly acknowledged their relationship in 2015 and were a publicly dating couple. The two met on a radio program hosted by Jang Ki-ha, continued their public relationship, and announced their breakup in 2017.
Given that nine years have passed since their breakup, she may have selected the song without much thought, but attention focused on the fact that Jang Ki-ha is currently publicly dating actress Yoon Ga-i.
Some netizens reacted that it was thoughtless, saying, "Putting myself in the other person's shoes makes me boil," "If I were Yoon Ga-i, I'd feel uncomfortable," and "Yoon Ga-i might be upset."
On the other hand, some said it was an overreaction, posting comments such as, "They dated and broke up 10 years ago; people are making a fuss over nothing," "The unfair attacks on IU are too much," "They must have parted on good terms," and "Stop attributing meaning."
Meanwhile, IU met actor Lee Jong-suk when she was an MC on SBS' Inkigayo in 2012 and remained senior and junior colleagues for 10 years before their relationship developed into a romance and they began dating publicly in 2022.
The two continued dating quietly without much public comment, and Lee Jong-suk even attended IU's solo concert to show his support from the audience, but after four years of dating they announced their breakup last month.
