Disney+ has teamed up with producer Hyun Jung-wan of Blood Game to present a new survival variety show, Sulrae Game.
Disney+ original variety Sulrae Game is an extreme experiential chase survival show that combines dopamine-inducing chases with the psychological warfare of a hidden seeker. Thirteen players with diverse and fresh charms will repeatedly face unpredictable chases and tense mental battles to awaken survival instincts and clash for the sole all-rounder player position combining physicality and strategy. Sulrae Game, which condenses the spectacle of physical games, the suspense of psychological games and the catharsis of brain games to deliver a thrilling rush, raises expectations as a new Disney+ title from a platform that recently rose to prominence as a survival-variety destination through the explosive popularity of Battle of Fates.
Above all, Sulrae Game is a new project boldly presented by producer Hyun Jung-wan, who is recognized as the G.O.A.T. of the survival variety scene. Hyun, praised for breaking the conventions of traditional survival shows through the Blood Game series, captures the thrilling sight of some competitors using their bodies while others use their minds within the familiar chase play to present a new raw survival-style survival game. That is why attention is focused on the new survival grammar that Hyun Jung-wan, who has dominated the survival variety scene, is set to deliver.
The recently released pre-teaser poster for Sulrae Game compressively conveys the work's worldview. A breathless chase unfolding in an unknowable space and the persistent emotional distance between two people provide tension and excitement. In particular, a bird's-eye angle that seems to place every move they make on the palm of a hand hints at the existence of the "sulrae" who controls and disrupts all chases, sparking curiosity about Sulrae Game's unique dynamic survival world.
The cast lineup is equally strong. All-rounder players who possess both survival intelligence and survival physicality make up the full roster. Former professional baseball player turned broadcaster Hwang Jae-gyun reveals fresh charm in survival variety shows with overwhelming physicality and sports IQ, and Ppanibottle, who acted as an action-oriented player on Blood Game 3, is expected to show veteran survival qualities on Sulrae Game as well. Also, actress Kyung Soo-jin, known as the "self-reliance goddess," will display a competitive streak hidden behind her innocent visuals, and fitness creator Malwang will assert himself as the "physical strongest" presence.
The addition of former national wrestling athlete and "physical empress" Jang Eun-sil gives the lineup more weight. Announcer Park Ji-min, who appeared on Blood Game seasons 1 and 2 and showcased swift thinking and bold play with surprising charm, and Kim Ddol-ddol, beloved as the "surefire variety character," will transform into a savvy strategist and enter the game. Actor Yoon Sang-hyeon will act as a versatile performer with both acting skills and athleticism, and Lee Jun-su, the second son of actor Lee Jong-Hyuk and now active as a creator, will show boundless potential as the energetic "Big Baby." "Sulrae Game," a new survival game designed by "survival variety G.O.A.T." Hyun Jung-wan, will be released worldwide on Disney+ in Sept. 2026.
Earlier, the Tving Sports official account released footage showing a dramatically thinner Hwang Jae-gyun, drawing attention. A video titled "The chaser who appeared on Tving" was uploaded, and netizens reacted with shock to Hwang Jae-gyun's noticeably lost weight and long-haired style, saying, "He has lost so much weight, it's worrying," and "Is he not sick somewhere?" During his active baseball years he boasted a sturdy profile of 183 cm·96 kg, but a gaunt face that looked somewhat ill was captured.
Later, on the 31st of last month, Jang Eun-sil posted on her personal social media, "Morning workout with Jae-gyun hyung. Today's slogan—let's kill even Friday night?!" along with exercise footage. She added the comment, "Jae-gyun hyung has lost too much weight," expressing concern.
In the released video, Hwang Jae-gyun and Jang Eun-sil were shown doing high-intensity training in an indoor gym. Hwang Jae-gyun was earnest about his workout even shirtless.
