The 14th Busan International Comedy Festival (BICF, hereafter Bucope) will fill Busan with laughter this summer with a wide range of domestic performances.
Running for ten days from Aug. 21 to 30, Bucope will greet audiences with diverse stages from the opening performance to the closing show. A broad lineup of performances, from legendary comedy to nonverbal performances and music comedy, is prepared to heat up the festival.
The opening performance that marks the start of the festival will take place at Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO). 'Talk king' Jee Seokjin will serve as the main MC and deliver cheerful banter, and performances will include Malja Show & Gag Concert gala show, drawing performance team Croquicky Brothers, and overseas comedian Patrick Cottet Moine. In addition, a congratulatory performance by the band QWER will be added, and Yang Sang-guk will serve as the blue carpet MC, welcoming top domestic comedians and overseas comedians to fully ignite the festival atmosphere.
A show honoring the spirit of the late Jeon Yu-seong, who represents Korea's comedy world, titled "Jeon Yu-seong without Jeon Yu-seong" will also meet audiences. Reflecting on the creative comedy philosophy left by Jeon Yu-seong, this performance will feature Lee Hong-ryeol as well as Shin Bong-Sun, Kim Shin-young, Zoltan (Lee Jae-hyung·Han Hyun-min·Jung Jin-wook) and others, delivering both emotion and laughter.
'Galgali Gag Concert: the return of the legend' brings nostalgic comedy back to the stage. Centered on Park Joonhyung, popular segments from Gag Concert such as "Youth white paper," "Everyday dialect," "Raincoat three siblings," and "Alley chief Mabakki" will once again engage with audiences. Legendary comedians including Shim Hyun-seop, Park Seong-ho, Lim Hyuk-pil, Park Young-jin, Kim Ji-hye, Oh Ji-heon, Oh Jeong Tae, and Park Hwi-soon will all appear to complete a stage that evokes nostalgia.
Nonverbal comedy team Ongals, which has toured 56 cities in 26 countries around the world, will also take the Bucope stage. Ongals, which delivers laughter with gestures and expressions that transcend language barriers, will once again be responsible for making audiences of all ages laugh with a performance anyone can enjoy.
The festival will conclude with "I am a dog singer." Kim Dae-hee, Cho Hye-lyeon, Lee Seyoung, Yeong-gi, Lee Ji-yo, and Lee Bong-won will appear to present a stage that combines comedy and music. With humorous banter, live music and unpredictable performances, the show is expected to splendidly decorate Bucope's finale.
