Chinese-speaking top star Jay Chou has recently been swept up in rumors about fathering a child out of wedlock, and his agency has announced strong legal action to counter them.
On the 6th (local time), Taiwanese outlet ETtoday reported that recent Chinese online discussions raised rumors that Jay Chou had an extramarital child.
According to the report, well-known Chinese paparazzo Zuo Wei claimed, "A Chinese pop king whose name has three characters, ranked top in the Chinese-language music world, developed a romantic relationship with a Ms. Liu in Xi'an, and they jointly owned restaurant and entertainment companies, and this woman gave birth," sparking controversy.
The paparazzo did not directly name the parties involved, but provided decisive clues such as "he established a company in Xi'an" and "in the same year, the same month, the same day he withdrew his equity." As a result, Chinese internet users speculated that he was referring to Jay Chou and his former business partner Liu Ruoxue.
As the controversy intensified, Jay Chou posted a photo of himself playing tennis on his social media with a short note saying "just hit it," indirectly expressing his bewilderment at the baseless rumors.
JVR Music, Jay Chou's agency, also issued an official statement on the 6th and mounted a full rebuttal.
The agency said, "The related online rumors are pure malicious fabrications and clear falsehoods. We strongly condemn actions that incite the public and seek traffic."
They added, "The internet is not a legal blind spot, and all acts of fabricating and spreading false information must bear corresponding legal responsibility," and warned sternly, "We have already retained lawyers, completed evidence preservation procedures against the creators and distributors of illegal posts, and will pursue legal responsibility to the end."
