"You Quiz on the Block" actor Eum Moon-seok worked hard to hone himself for his dream.
On the 29th broadcast of tvN "You Quiz on the Block" (hereafter "You Quiz"), actor Eum Moon-seok, who drew attention for his tremendous presence in the film Hope, appeared.
Eum Moon-seok was a dancer who gained attention for krump on "Dancing 9." Before that, Eum Moon-seok also debuted as a singer. Having nurtured his dream of dance from the young age of 16, he suddenly came up to Seoul. With no ties to Seoul, he ate by the goodwill of others and moved from acquaintance's house to acquaintance's house.
At 24 he debuted as a singer and performance team and received poor results. Eum Moon-seok said, "If a person keeps going crazy and it won't work, it just won't work; when it looks like it might work, it collapses, and so on. My older sister said, 'If I catch you in the practice room again, I'll kill you.' I didn't know when a performance opportunity would come, so I always practiced," he said. Although he appeared on "Dancing 9," which did not bring major success, he entered the path of acting. The reason was that his facial expressions when dancing were very poor.
Then, after discovering the taste of acting, he went to film auditions and, along with unknown actors, produced two short films. One was a directorial work and one was a leading-role work. When one was even invited to the Cannes non-competition section, Eum Moon-seok naturally flew to France. The problem was that the non-competition section required participants to attend at their own expense. Eum Moon-seok said, "Where else would I get such an opportunity?" and flew to France.
Since then, he rose to prominence as an actor with the drama "The Fiery Priest" and went on to appear in "The Outlaws 2" and "Taxi Driver 3." In "The Fiery Priest" he even won a rookie award. Eum Moon-seok said, "My parents were happy. When I won the rookie award at the acting awards, my father came even though he was ill. He usually can't sit in one place for five minutes, but he watched only me for four hours," he said, adding that his father, who was undergoing treatment for restrictive lung disease and lung cancer at the time, said, "I could die with no regrets."
Eum Moon-seok said, "I watched over his deathbed," and thinking about that time he cried so much he could hardly speak. Eum Moon-seok said that if his father could see him now, firmly established as an actor through Hope, he was sure his father would be proud. He spoke about his father, who would suddenly say he had business in Seoul when he was young and hand him bills.
Eum Moon-seok said, "My father didn't have a wallet. When he took out the bills there were 1,000 won, 5,000 won, 50,000 won, like that. No matter how I think about it, my father had no ties to Seoul. Then he said he had some business and left, and that rear figure stayed with me for a long time. I thought I had to become tougher then," naming his father as the reason that made him who he is now.
