"Gyeongju Journey" is a family revenge drama about four mothers and daughters who set out on a "killer" trip after eight years of waiting to find the youngest daughter, Gyeong-ju, who did not return from a school trip.
Actor Lee Yeon has proven an exceptional acting spectrum by playing juvenile offenders, delinquent youths, a monk, a killer, and a secretary at a large company regardless of gender and role in "Juvenile Justice," "Weak Hero Class 1," "Jeolhaegodo," "Kill Boksoon," and "Perfect Crown." Known for leaving a strong impact on audiences with fierce performances in each work, she shows a new face in the film "Gyeongju Journey" as the third daughter "Dong-ju," a former pro wrestler.
Dong-ju is a character who, among the pillar of the family firstborn, the clear-headed second sister, and the cute youngest, has always thrown herself into everything with her whole body to be loved. She is a hot-tempered action person whose fists come out before her head and is like a time bomb that always brings incidents, and even after giving up pro wrestling due to injury, she takes charge of the physical work in this family revenge plan with overflowing energy. Lee Yeon, who plays the impulsive Dong-ju who jumps in without thinking, breathes life into the drama and completes the sisters' three-dimensional relationships.
To physically embody the unique and bubbly charm of Dong-ju, Lee Yeon personally considered even the hairstyle. She went to Japan to refine a striking shag cut suitable for the character and made extraordinary efforts such as undergoing high-intensity action training at the Paju action school to learn pro wrestling techniques.
Director Kim Mi-jo, who had been watching Lee Yeon since the film "Ivy" said, "Lee Yeon showed such a perfect synchronicity that it is hard to imagine Dong-ju without her," expressing deep trust, and added, "Although the action was demanding physically, she performed enthusiastically without a single complaint," expressing gratitude.
Lee Yeon described Dong-ju, whom she plays, as "the roughest and most striking among the family members, but in fact a young daughter who throws herself into things to try to ease her mother's hardened heart," touching on the character's tender inner side. Lee Yeon's intense performance, which will densely portray Dong-ju's rough appearance as well as her fragile inner self, is expected to raise the completeness of the film.
