tvN 'You Quiz on the Block' presents a special episode titled "Long live and see," featuring a cast that will surprise viewers and swing between moving and chilling moments.
Today (5th, Wed) at 8:45 p.m., the 354th episode of tvN 'You Quiz on the Block' (directed by Heo Gang-seok and Kim Ji-young, writer Lee Un-ju) will feature Korea's magic god Lee Eun-gyeol, 96-year-old grandmother Im Bong-geun who conveyed tender love through hundreds of letters and her granddaughter writer Im Da-woon, "the emperor of live" Lee Seung-Chul celebrating his 40th debut anniversary, and actor Eum Moon-seok, who endured 19 years of obscurity before finally shining, each sharing remarkable life stories.
First, actor Eum Moon-seok, who rose as a scene-stealer after receiving high praise from director Bong Joon-ho for the film Hope following a long 19-year tunnel of obscurity, will deliver a tearful, candid confession that is expected to move viewers. Responding humbly to the outpouring of praise by saying, "Honestly, I'm scared and I hope I don't get exposed," he recounts the harsh Seoul life of moving from house to house since he was 16 and stories of eating by reading the room.
In particular, he recalled the moment he comforted himself on the mattress he bought for the first time, saying, "Mun-seok, now live your life," and shed hot tears that moved the set. Along with the tearful story of his terminally ill father who passed away, he will showcase a spontaneous dance stage that evokes admiration from Yu Jae-seok, reflecting his background as a singer and dancer, displaying a variety of charms.
The appearance of "the emperor of live" Lee Seung-Chul, who celebrates his 40th debut anniversary, also draws attention. Confessing his longtime fandom by saying, "I bought Resurrection's album in middle school and listened to it countless times," Yu Jae-seok watched as Lee Seung-Chul, true to his reputation as a "hit song vending machine," gifted live performances of famous songs from the front row, heating up the set. He reveals unexpected connections such as appearing in director Park Chan-wook's debut work, behind-the-scenes stories including Yu Jae-seok being the top contributor to the resurgence of "Never Ending Story," and a reversal anecdote about the agonizing days at home during his harsh judge period on "Superstar K," showcasing his unique talk skills.
The shocking untold story of Lee Eun-gyeol, who raised Korean magic to a world-class level as the "magic god," is also unveiled. Celebrating his 30th debut anniversary, he reported on his current work as general director of the magic and musical hybrid "Heartsping," and revealed that the expense invested in magic alone amounts to a staggering 20 billion won, surprising viewers. However, he candidly shared the painful past of having to seclude himself for two years after entrusting his seal to a brother he trusted like family and undergoing the ordeal of a "9:1 10-year slave contract." Alongside this, he will captivate viewers' eyes and ears with an awe-inducing solo magic show prepared exclusively for "You Quiz."
Adding warmth is the love story that transcends 60 years between 96-year-old Im Bong-geun and her 36-year-old granddaughter writer Im Da-woon, who lived through tumultuous modern history. She entered Ewha Womans University department of Korean literature as the class of '50 but had to work as a war correspondent during the June 25 War; she pioneered a life by changing the surnames of her three children to her own despite her husband's affair; and during the COVID-19 period, hundreds of letters exchanged with her granddaughter to ease loneliness became a prose collection, unfolding a moving story. The 96-year-old grandmother's unabashed twist of charm, from a rosy atmosphere with a 91-year-old younger suitor to her affection for trot singer Jang Min Ho, is expected to bring deep resonance and laughter to viewers.<
