'OK! MADAM2' Uhm Jung-hwa expressed that she feels competitive with 'Spider-Man 4' and Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey'.
On the morning of the 4th at a cafe on Samcheong-ro in Jongno-gu, Seoul, an interview was held with Uhm Jung-hwa, the lead actor of the film 'OK! MADAM2'.
'OK! MADAM2'(director Lee Cheol-ha, provided by CGV Pictures·올(OAL), distributed by CGV Pictures, produced by 올(OAL)) is a comic action film about the family of former legend agent Mi-young, who set off on a luxury cruise to escape the heat and everyday life, becoming embroiled in a cruise kidnapping incident in the middle of the blue sea. It returns after six years as the sequel to season 1, which drew 1.22 million people amid the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. Original members Uhm Jung-hwa, Park Sung-woong, Lee Sang-yoon and Bae Jung-nam, along with distinctive new members Park Jin-joo, Ryeowon and Choi Sooyoung have joined.
Uhm Jung-hwa delivered a passionate performance as Mi-young, a former special agent who set off on a luxury cruise in the film. She returned to the screen three years after '화사한 그녀' (2023), and has also been active on the small screen with Doctor Cha (2023) and My Troublesome Star (2025).
Currently, the domestic box office is about to see Marvel's 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day', which surpassed 3 million in five days after release and is approaching 4 million, and the new film 'Odyssey' by world-renowned director Christopher Nolan premiere. It will be competing with tremendous Hollywood blockbusters.
Uhm Jung-hwa said, "There are tremendous blockbusters, and there are good works like 'Spider-Man' and 'Odyssey', so I'm even more excited. The distinction of our film is that it's truly an entertaining family film that can be enjoyed, a movie where you can comfortably watch the refreshing sea while eating popcorn. I'm looking forward to it because it's a film people can seek out for that kind of fun."
Asked, "Isn't the release timing a bit unfortunate?" she said, "This summer it's a small bit of fun that people of all ages can watch, and a work families can all watch together," adding, "It's a Korean film, and I'm in it. (laughs) We all had great teamwork and it's a fun film, so we're aiming for that difference. That's our strength."
Uhm Jung-hwa smiled and said, "A sequel isn't something you plan alone or make just because you want to. Having a sequel made is something I've never experienced in my 35-year acting career. That's why I'm proud as an actor. It means a lot to me that I gained the strength to make a sequel to the point where I want to praise myself. Producing a sequel is not easy, so we really fought for it."
Meanwhile, 'OK! MADAM2' opens on the 12th.<
