Girl group LIGHTSUM is making a spectacular comeback in Japan.
According to the agency on the 4th, the original documentary program Re:Idol on Japanese OTT platform ABEMA, featuring LIGHTSUM (Sanga, Chowon, Nayoung, Hina, Juhyun, Yoojung), will premiere on the 9th at 10 p.m.
Re:Idol is an intimate documentary chronicling LIGHTSUM's re-debut project in Japan as the group marks its fifth anniversary this year. It captures on camera the honest worries of the six members, who have constantly struggled and changed to soar higher since the 2024 digital single "POSE!," and their intense preparations for a local debut.
The core viewing point is the process in which six members, each with a different personality, open up honestly and prove their strengthened teamwork and growth. In addition, fellow agency senior and former 4minute member actress 권소현 will lend her support, adding a distinctive senior-junior chemistry and authenticity.
Earlier, LIGHTSUM steadily broadened their spectrum through diverse musical attempts. In January, they released the unit digital single "Aramdapgodo Apeuguna," featuring Sanga, Chowon and Juhyun, showcasing delicate sensibilities. Then Chowon participated in the ending song "JANE DOE" for the theatrical version of "Chainsaw Man: Reze arc," and Nayoung covered YOASOBI's "Yoru ni Kakeru (Running into the Night)," drawing responses with high-quality content.
Furthermore, through their official YouTube channel they released Juhyun's self-composed song "April" and Yoojung's "Nonsense," reinforcing their presence as an all-rounder group.
Having shown significantly enhanced musical capabilities, LIGHTSUM plans to accelerate their local activities in Japan starting with the ABEMA original documentary Re:Idol and intensify their full-scale global push.
The original documentary Re:Idol, which captures LIGHTSUM's re-debut journey, is produced as a seven-episode series and will be released sequentially on Japan's ABEMA every Sunday at 10 p.m. starting on the 9th.
