[OSEN] Screwballs marked the triumphant return of concept-variety by winning two awards at the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards.
Netflix's Screwballs won two awards, including best female entertainer (Kim Sook) and best male entertainer (Joo Woo-jae), at the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards held at Incheon Paradise City on July 31.
Nominated in three categories at the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards, including best variety program in the entertainment institutional sector, Screwballs delivers an even greater resonance with its narrative of adversity, in which members and staff of a variety show that was unfortunately canceled due to ratings reunited and revived as a Netflix variety show.
When the cancellation became known, fans launched an extraordinary truck protest opposing the cancellation, signaling the revival of fandom variety. In response to fans' continued support, the show returned as a Netflix variety series and immediately became an upset again by ranking No. 1 on Today's Korea top 10 series upon its first release. Notably, as a Netflix daily series it unusually sustained life through season 6, proving its nickname as the "variety show that came back from hell."
Screwballs is a variety show that depicts the joys and sorrows of life assembled without screws by the top 99% of talents, featuring a strong and diverse chemistry among members Sook, Hong Jin Kyung, Cho Sae-ho, Joo Woo-jae and Jang Wooyoung, and showcasing their somewhat goofy character variety. Following "season 1: in search of the lost screw," "season 2: in search of the lost steering wheel," "season 3: Screwballs disassembly show," "season 4: the rival," and "season 5: the game of death," "season 6: the laws of survival" will be released Aug. 8 at 11 a.m.
