ASTRO alumnus actor Cha Eun-woo, who received a tax reassessment notice and paid a reassessment of 13 billion won, has filed a tax trial and will continue the legal dispute.
On the 2nd, Cha Eun-woo's agency Fantagio told OSEN, "Cha Eun-woo filed a tax trial in accordance with the procedures prescribed by law to receive a legal judgment," the agency said.
Earlier, Cha Eun-woo was notified of a tax reassessment exceeding 20 billion won after undergoing an intensive tax investigation by the Seoul Regional Tax Service Investigation Division 4 ahead of his enlistment in July last year. The National Tax Service determined that Cha Eun-woo had signed a service contract with company A established by his mother, Ms. Choi, and distributed revenue to apply a lower corporate tax rate instead of the high individual income tax rate. The National Tax Service judged that this company A was a paper company with no substantive service provision.
In response, Fantagio said the company was officially registered as a business planning company for popular culture and arts and filed a "pre-taxation adequacy review," but as suspicions of tax evasion grew larger, Cha Eun-woo said he "respects the procedures and results of the National Tax Service, and in order to prevent further confusion, paid all related taxes. I will also faithfully participate in the remaining procedures," and then paid the full reassessment of 13 billion won.
Meanwhile, one media outlet reported that Cha Eun-woo submitted a tax trial petition in objection to the National Tax Service's taxation decision of around 13 billion won. An objection petition is an administrative trial procedure in which a taxpayer asks the government to cancel a tax imposition on the grounds that the National Tax Service's tax assessment is wrong. It is reported that the tax tribunal's final conclusion is likely to come after next January, after Cha Eun-woo is discharged. If the tax tribunal rules in Cha Eun-woo's favor, he will receive a refund of the paid taxes, and if the petition is dismissed, he can file a formal lawsuit with the Administrative Court.
However, Fantagio expressed a cautious stance, saying, "We ask for your understanding that we cannot comment on specific details as the current procedure is ongoing," regarding detailed matters.
Meanwhile, Cha Eun-woo enlisted in the army in July last year and is serving his military service in the army band. While serving in the military, in May of this year the Netflix series "The Wonder Fools," starring Park Eunbin and Cha Eun-woo, was released and drew attention.<
