Former soccer player and commentator Lee Young-pyo recounted an anecdote about losing all the money spent on World Cup tickets.
On the 2nd broadcast of KBS2 entertainment show Boss in the Mirror, the scene showed announcers Eom Ji-in and Kim Jin-woong visiting announcer Lee Sang-chul's rented room.
That day Eom Ji-in and Kim Jin-woong were astonished by Lee Sang-chul's extreme frugality. Lee Sang-chul said his monthly rent was 300,000 won, maintenance fees 80,000 won, and that including utilities and living expenses his monthly expenditure totaled about 1.1 million won, shocking the others.
By contrast, single Kim Jin-woong said, "When I really spend a lot, I spend about 4 to 5 million won a month." Asked about his highest expenditure, he said, "I happened to get a vacation and went to Spain for eight nights and 10 days. I bought plane tickets at the last minute so they were expensive. After the trip I realized I'd spent about 11 million won," showing a contrasting picture.
Hearing this, Kim Sook asked the panelists, "How much do you all spend on living expenses?" Park Myung Soo said, "I only eat and drink coffee. Maybe about 200?" and Jun Hyun-moo said, "One thing is certain: Lee Young-pyo is the most extravagant here. I was shocked to see it," drawing attention.
He said, "I bought tickets expecting to reach the round of 32 in Los Angeles." Lee Young-pyo said, "I bought 20," and Jun Hyun-moo said, "He lost them all," evoking sympathy.
Kim Sook joked, "It seems like that credit card bill came out," and Jun Hyun-moo agreed, "Then it makes sense." Lee Young-pyo confessed, "When I first bought them they were 1 million won each. Later, when (Korea) won and things like that, the price went up to 4 to 5 million won per ticket. Then we didn't make it to the round of 32, right? I gave them away to people around me." Hearing this, Jun Hyun-moo added, "So that's why you slammed the desk while commentating?" which made everyone laugh.
