A high-definition pirated copy of the box office hit film 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' was leaked on social media.
According to U.S. outlet Variety on the 31st (local time), a high-definition pirated copy of 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' was leaked on X (formerly Twitter) that day and was viewed by millions.
According to the report, the leaked video posted to an account named 'Fredrick Bryan' at 6:05 a.m. PT was exposed to more than 5.9 million accounts by around 3:25 p.m. before it was deleted. It was reported that more than 143,000 people had liked it and 10,000 people had reposted it just before deletion.
Several other X accounts also posted copies, but most were removed from the platform shortly thereafter. Typically, film studios send copyright infringement notices to those who post unauthorized copies, but for the most popular new releases the volume of posts is too great to handle completely.
Not only 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' but also director Christopher Nolan's new film 'Odyssey' had a high-definition pirated copy leaked on X last week. The video recorded 2.1 million views in just two and a half hours before being removed following a copyright infringement notice, and the posting account was permanently suspended.
Regarding the 'Odyssey' leak at the time, distributor Universal Pictures issued a statement saying, "We became aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately activated our takedown protocol," and "we take copyright infringement very seriously and will take all appropriate remedies available to protect our content and intellectual property."
Independent of the leak, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is already achieving standout box office results. It earned a record $72 million from previews alone, surpassing the previous preview record of $60 million set by 'Avengers: Endgame.'
In Korea, 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' surpassed 3 million viewers in five days after its release, proving its strong popularity.
