Singer and actress IU, who has temporarily suspended activities due to health issues, appeared in public as a presenter at the Blue Dragon Series Awards.
IU took the stage as a presenter of the best actor award with Ju Jihoon at the live-broadcast KBS 2TV 'The 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards' on the 31st.
When she stepped on stage, IU opened by saying, "I thought I wouldn't be nervous today, but standing here brings back memories of last year and my heart is pounding." She continued, "With the encouragement from the award I received last year, I really worked hard throughout the year," recalling the time she won last year and drawing attention.
Her appearance that day was especially welcomed because it was her first public appearance about ten days after she temporarily suspended activities due to health issues.
Earlier, on the 20th, her agency EDAM Entertainment announced that IU's chronic eustachian tube dysfunction had recently worsened, and that the Goyang Stadium concert scheduled for September, subsequent performances, and the release schedule for her sixth studio album would all be postponed.
IU also explained directly on her fan platform, "For years I think I pushed myself without considering my condition because of my work ambition," adding, "Experts have told me that performing would be too much for the time being."
At the time, she had promised fans, "I will focus on treatment and return as soon as possible in a healthy condition."
Having temporarily paused activities due to health issues, IU took the stage as a presenter and continued the awards with an unchanged smile and calm manner, and fans showered her with warm looks at her long-awaited appearance in public.
