Comedian Lee Suji personally apologized two weeks after accusations of mocking a re-election protest.
Lee Suji on the morning of the 1st through her YouTube channel '핫이슈지' released a handwritten letter saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing disappointment and inconvenience to many people because of this matter. I also deeply apologize for not responding quickly and properly after the controversy."
She added, "I will take this matter seriously, take sufficient time to reorganize, and return in a more careful and responsible manner."
In her handwritten apology she opened by saying, "First, I bow my head and sincerely apologize to everyone who felt discomfort and disappointment due to the recently uploaded 'Extreme Job public servant' episode on the YouTube '핫 이슈지' channel. My failure to quickly respond and apologize to those who were hurt is also an inexcusable mistake and my responsibility."
At the same time Lee Suji added, "Regardless of the intention to make people laugh, I accept seriously that as a result I caused someone hurt and discomfort."
Lee Suji said about attending the 5th Blue Dragon Series Awards on the 31st after the controversy, "The Blue Dragon Series Awards was the first official occasion I stood before you after this matter. I went on stage with many thoughts, but I felt it was insufficient to fully convey my feelings there. Although late, I wanted to directly convey my sincerity, so I am leaving this message."
She continued, "As a comedian who should bring laughter, I should have been more careful. I failed to fully consider that my acting and content could come across as hurtful or offensive to someone," and, "
I will use this incident as an opportunity to reflect more deeply on myself. With a more careful attitude and greater sense of responsibility, I will strive to be a comedian who delivers healthy laughter that many people can relate to. I sincerely apologize once again to everyone who was hurt and disappointed by my shortcomings," she repeatedly apologized.
Earlier last month content titled 'Civil servant Kim Ji-young's protecting the iron rice bowl [human documentary Extreme Job] (broadcast 20260714)' was released through the '핫이슈지' channel. In that video Lee Suji played Deputy Assistant Director Kim Ji-young, who passed the civil service exam after grueling study. In depicting the 'malicious civil complaints' that civil servants actually experience, Lee Suji dissuaded a complainant shouting "re-election" by saying "You cannot do that here," and afterwards became embroiled in allegations of mocking recent re-election protests. Although the production team issued an apology and explanation, Lee Suji had not expressed her own position directly.
