Interest is rising in actress Jang Seo-hee's return to the small screen with "A Trap Called Desire."
"A Trap Called Desire" injects tense drama into living rooms with relationships between characters whose loyalties are hard to read as friend or foe.
The new KBS 2TV daily drama "A Trap Called Desire" (directed by Lee Dae-gyeong, Jeong Gwang-soo / written by Koo Ji-won / produced by Studio Bom), set to premiere on Aug. 10 at 7:50 p.m., is a fate-restoring revenge drama about a woman whose life was stolen by a murder frame as she confronts vast desire.
Known as the "queen of daily dramas" after producing numerous hits such as "The Mermaid" and "Temptation of a Wife," Jang Seo-hee returns to KBS after 12 years with "A Trap Called Desire," drawing major attention even before airing.
The stills released today (the 31st) include images of the drama's two leads, Jang Seo-hee and Jeon Hye-won, as well as Yoon Hae-young, Yoo Tae-woong, Jang Se-hyun, Seo Kwon-soon, Choi Jae-won and Suh You-jung. Subtle expressions of characters nursing different desires were captured, drawing attention to how they will become entangled.
First, Joo Mi-ran (played by Jang Seo-hee), a former nanny and head of public relations at the "Cheongma Scholarship Foundation," is a character who has lived with the desire to take over "Cheongma Group" after once upending a person's fate. To protect the lies she has built, she shows a ruthless side that can use anyone, raising interest in what kind of interests and conflicts will bring her face to face with Kim Jung-sun (played by Yoon Hae-young), chair of the "Cheongma Scholarship Foundation," and Kang Young-hoon (played by Yoo Tae-woong), CEO of "Cheongma Group." Although they appear to aim for the same goal outwardly, the subtle rifts among the three people who harbor different desires are expected to make the drama even more thrilling.
Meanwhile, Ko Eun-seol (played by Jeon Hye-won) grew up under the care of her adoptive parents Go Gi-han (played by Choi Jae-won) and Park Hee-jung (played by Suh You-jung) and her adoptive grandmother Wang Geum-ja (played by Seo Kwon-soon), but when the secret of her birth was about to be revealed, she fell into a cruel trap set by someone and was framed for murder. Questions grow about why Ko Eun-seol had no choice but to be raised by her adoptive parents and about the true nature of the incident that upended her life. Attention is also on what choices the family, whose ordinary life was shattered, will make to overcome this. At the same time, the lawyer Seo Hyun-jae (played by Jang Se-hyun), who stands by Ko Eun-seol in every crisis, also draws eyes. A man of justice and cool judgment, he becomes a solid helper closest to Ko Eun-seol to uncover the truth behind her wrongful case. The presence of Seo Hyun-jae, the ever-supportive "tall uncle," and how he will shake up the stage for revenge make viewers eager for the dopamine-exploding developments promised in the first broadcast of "A Trap Called Desire."
Jang Seo-hee debuted in 1981 through a pretty children's contest and appeared in numerous works, notably breaking a long period of obscurity through Im Seong-han's "The Mermaid" (2002), which that year earned her the MBC acting award. She later received great love with works such as "Temptation of a Wife" (2008), which approached 40 percent in viewership.
