Actor So Jisub expressed affection for actors Yoon Kyung-ho and Choi Dae-hoon, who completed the bromance of Manager Kim. The three, who brought laughter and emotion as the "three middle-aged men wearing glasses," were so immersed in their characters that they would only talk about acting when they met on set.
So Jisub mentioned his chemistry with Yoon Kyung-ho and Choi Dae-hoon during a wrap-up interview for the SBS Friday-Saturday drama Manager Kim (written by Nam Dae-joong, directed by Lee Seung-young and Lee So-eun), held on the afternoon of the 30th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Manager Kim is a revenge action drama in the dad universe about an otherwise "most ordinary" dad, Manager Kim (played by So Jisub), who becomes the "most dangerous" man in the world to win back his only daughter (played by Seo Sumin). Yoon Kyung-ho and Choi Dae-hoon played Kim's long-time friends Park Jin-chul and Seong Han-su, respectively.
Manager Kim added to its appeal not only with flashy action, fast pacing and tender paternal love, but also with the bromance between Kim and his friends. While Manager Kim portrayed a father's desperate struggle to find his daughter, his two friends Park Jin-chul and Seong Han-su provided laughter with their delightful chemistry. The three led the show's popularity as the "three middle-aged men wearing glasses."
In an interview with OSEN, So Jisub spoke about his chemistry with Yoon Kyung-ho and Choi Dae-hoon. He said, "I think the reason Manager Kim did well is because those friends had tremendous importance. On set we always seemed to only talk about how to make this scene," and added, "The three of us have very different acting styles, so I think it came out more entertaining."
He also explained about Yoon Kyung-ho and Choi Dae-hoon's ad-libs, saying, "Manager Kim couldn't do many things because of the character, so we had them do it. After the main lines were finished, the characters spoke lines they could say like ad-libs."
The three, who showed a tender and delightful chemistry, also appeared like real friends when promoting Manager Kim. When they appeared together on YouTube variety shows and other programs to promote the show, they were the same as their characters in the work.
So Jisub also mentioned Yoon Kyung-ho's "13-hour vow of silence." At the Manager Kim press conference earlier, Yoon Kyung-ho pledged to observe a 13-hour vow of silence if the ratings surpassed 13 percent, and the show recorded a 15.7% rating in just its second broadcast (according to Nielsen Korea), requiring him to fulfill the pledge.
Accordingly, Yoon Kyung-ho fulfilled the pledge on the 13th, appeared on SBS Radio's Cultwo show, and held a fan signing event, drawing attention. So Jisub said, "Yoon Kyung-ho called and said he had to do the vow of silence, so I told him not to act rashly. He's basically a very talkative friend. I thought he might not remember what he said, and regardless of intention it could be misunderstood, so I told him to be careful on live broadcasts."
So Jisub continued, laughing, "When Yoon Kyung-ho was told he had to observe a 13-hour vow of silence, he said, 'I do that all the time.'"
So Jisub then recounted Yoon Kyung-ho's remark that they were polar opposites but would have to be together all day on a reward leave, saying with a laugh, "I don't think we'll stay together the whole time. In Kyung-ho's case, if he doesn't speak, the other person might feel uncomfortable, so he keeps drawing out conversation to make people comfortable by talking continuously. It's not uncomfortable; it's pleasant and fun. On set he always calls me 'hyung' and hugs me. I was very happy. But I don't think we'll be together the whole time," eliciting laughter.
