Culinary Class Wars season 1 winner chef Kwon Seong-jun revealed why he purchased a building in Sindang-dong.
On the 30th, a video titled Undercover building owner returns taste pizza (with Kim Poong) was posted on the YouTube channel Chimchakman.
Previously, chef Kwon Seong-jun purchased a small office building in Sindang-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, last September for about 3.3 billion won. He recently explained on a YouTube video, "The building sale price was 3.3 billion won. With acquisition tax and taxes of about 150 million won added, you can think of it as about 3.5 billion won."
As Chimchakman and Kim Poong visited his 3.5 billion won Sindang-dong building, chef Kwon Seong-jun introduced the newly prepared studio, saying, "The first floor is planned to be a café. Construction will start at the end of the year. And the second and third floors will be a restaurant. And the fifth floor is here."
When the production team asked why he chose Sindang-dong, Kwon Seong-jun explained, "At first I wanted Yongsan, but it was too expensive. And it was old. As I searched for a new building, Jung-gu seemed fine. Because the location is good, and this area is all scheduled for redevelopment. If redevelopment happens, it wouldn't be bad."
Kwon Seong-jun said, "It is close to Hannam, Gangnam and Apgujeong, where the wealthiest people in Seoul live. So it's convenient to get customers. Since I do fine dining anyway, I have to be near people with high purchasing power."
When Chimchakman provocatively asked, "You don't want bums?," Kwon Seong-jun replied, "It's not that we don't want bums; our goal is not to sell a lot of cheap food. So we chose the location for its geographic position rather than foot traffic."
When Chimchakman asked, "Trying to feed off the rich?," Kwon Seong-jun added, "We have to feed off the rich. Somehow we have to feed off the rich," prompting laughter.
