Actor Son Naeun said she is not deliberately dieting to maintain an extremely thin figure.
Son Naeun conducted an end-of-series interview for the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Manager Kim' on the 29th at a cafe in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Son Naeun appeared as Jung Sang-ah, an assistant manager at Sangsaeng Savings Bank and an agent of the special missions bureau where Manager Kim (So Jisub) works, and delivered a strong performance.
In the early part of the drama she revealed the image of an MZ bank employee who is a trendsetter sensitive to fashion from head to toe, and after the twist that she was an agent of the special missions bureau was revealed, she provided thrills with action that skillfully handled weapons such as guns and knives.
Earlier, Son Naeun appeared on a YouTube channel and said that she could do nothing alone until her mid-to-late 20s. So how is she now? Son Naeun recalled, "Looking back now, it was like that professionally, but anyway, even in my 20s I thought I wasn't a perfect adult. I had a lot of limits and many areas where I needed help."
She continued, "As I got older and gained more years, I tried things I hadn't done and started to break the mold, and I realized I hadn't thought more maturely back then. I began to notice how friends my age live," adding, "I still keep the entertainer Son Naeun, but it's also a time when I think I shouldn't miss the life of the person Son Naeun."
So among the changed current aspects, which does she like the most? She said, "These days there are moments when I think, 'Am I kind of adultlike?' For example, it's not important, but when a delivery has a problem and I call to resolve it, I feel, 'I'm kind of adultlike.'" she said, adding, "Also, whereas before my family took care of my parents' care, now I feel it has changed. When I feel like I'm taking care of and attending to my parents, I feel, 'I've grown up a bit.'"
When asked if she felt changes after turning 30, Son Naeun sighed and lamented, "Suddenly I turned 30." She confessed, "In the early 30s I thought there was no difference between being in my 30s and 20s, but that doesn't seem to be the case. When I was young, I looked best after all the schedules were over. The swelling would completely go down (laughs). Now, after long shoots and when a schedule ends, I'm very tired. I think it shows on my face."
When asked whether she lost weight while preparing for this project, Son Naeun said, "I didn't specifically lose weight. I tried to increase my muscle mass. It wasn't intentional, but I did lose weight. These days, not only in comments but people I meet in person ask, 'Why have you lost so much weight?' but I don't diet."
Son Naeun showed off her muscles on site, saying, "Summer doesn't suit me, so when summer comes I lose my appetite and tend to lose weight in summer. I eat very healthily and exercise a lot, so my muscles increased. People worry, but there's nothing to worry about. I'm in a healthy state. I want to show you my muscles."
Consistent self-management also had its hardships. She said she had never finished a bowl of instant noodles. She said, "Since childhood it became a habit, and now it seems to be part of my daily life. I control myself when eating, and although I really like instant noodles, I hardly eat them; if someone else eats them I take one bite and that's it," adding, "Flying is very painful. When someone ordered instant noodles on a plane, in the past I would plug my nose with tissue. I would just plug it and sleep."
Just hearing Son Naeun's words made her life feel agonizing. What is the joy of life for this Son Naeun? After thinking, she shyly answered, "peach." She said, "I'm a firm peach person. I don't like summer, but because of that I wait for summer. I eat a lot of peaches. If I have no appetite I replace a meal with a peach. When they are all gone I order more, and I got into that."
As reactions continue that this 'Manager Kim' has led to a new discovery and rediscovery of Son Naeun, what does she feel is the most changed part? She said, "A lot of fear has disappeared. It's connected to the story that I put limits on myself when I was young; I liked the familiar and feared change, but now I think I have a spirit of challenge rather than fear of change."
Son Naeun expressed satisfaction, saying, "It seems to have changed into curiosity. That's true for works, for new characters, for new staff and filming sites; instead of fear I feel I should enjoy it more and I feel a sense of responsibility. I think it's a positive change."
