Comedian Lee Kyung-sil revealed the heartfelt feelings she had buried in her chest at the time of her divorce 23 years ago.
Lee Kyung-sil and actress Son Soo-ah, mother and daughter, have launched a YouTube channel called "Our mom Lee Kyung-sil" and begun active communication. In the video, which will be released today (30th) at 7 p.m., the two will portray a day-trip to Danyang.
In the car heading to Danyang, Lee Kyung-sil cautiously began, "I want to visit Everland sometime later. I went when I was young, didn't I?" In response, Son Soo-ah recalled fond childhood memories, saying, "That would be great. I like churros."
In fact, Everland is a place that left deep scars from the divorce for Lee Kyung-sil. When Lee Kyung-sil divorced in 2003, negative public perceptions of female entertainers' divorces were widespread, and their broadcasting activities were restricted. In 2004, when the media reported that Lee Kyung-sil visited an amusement park with her ex-husband, she was once again subject to intense criticism.
Lee Kyung-sil directly mentioned the place filled with painful memories and confessed for the first time in 23 years, "I went once after the divorce. I didn't go after that. (Because the article came out) my grandmother flew into a rage asking why I met him," and added, "I went thinking of you," revealing the hidden truth. Although she suffered the pain of divorce, it was a desperate maternal choice to leave good memories for her young children as a mother. The newly unveiled "Our mom Lee Kyung-sil" is a channel in which Lee Kyung-sil and Son Soo-ah share travel, hobbies, and experiences, presenting everyday empathy that only a mother and daughter can have in vlog format. Especially, it is produced from the daughter's perspective looking at her mother Lee Kyung-sil, and it is expected to fully convey the warm and pleasant chemistry unique to the mother-daughter relationship. The first episode will feature the two's affectionate Danyang travel course, from market snacks to a paragliding experience and a café date.
Meanwhile, Lee Kyung-sil debuted in 1987 after winning the grand prize at the first MBC Gag Contest and remains one of Korea's leading comedians. She currently actively operates the YouTube channel "New Women" with Cho Hye-lyeon and is appearing in the play "I love you, mom."
Lee Kyung-sil's daughter Son Soo-ah, who came from the 2016 Supermodel contest, is currently active as an actress. She has built a filmography across screen and television with works such as the drama "DNA Lover," the films "Myongdang" and "Empire of Evil," and she also appears on stage in the play "I love you, mom" alongside her mother Lee Kyung-sil.
