Lee Jung-eun-style maternal acting explodes in 'Gyeongju trip.'
Lee Jung-eun shows a different kind of maternal performance through the film 'Gyeongju trip' (screenplay·director Kim Mi-jo, presented by Lotte Entertainment, Michigan Venture Capital Co., Ltd., distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by Studio Hi-Five, co-produced by Euphoria ENT).
'Gyeongju trip' is a family revenge drama of four mothers who, for the youngest daughter Gyeongju who did not return from a school trip, set out on a 'killer' journey after eight years of waiting, and is scheduled to be released on Aug. 26.
After showing a crazed performance and presence in 'Parasite,' 'The Others Are Hell,' and 'A Bloody Lucky Day,' moving viewers as a mother in 'When the Camellia Blooms' and 'Light Shop,' and presenting an irresistible acting spectrum as a cheerful character in 'She Different by Day and Night' and 'My Daughter is a Zombie,' Lee Jung-eun plays the mother, Ok-sil, in 'Gyeongju trip.'
Ok-sil runs the neighborhood repair shop Ok Fashion and lived an ordinary life making a living, but she is a character who endured eight years looking only to revenge amid the sorrow and guilt of losing her youngest daughter Gyeongju.
Playing the organizer of the four mothers' 'killer journey,' Lee Jung-eun will convey to audiences a deep resonance by densely portraying everything from boiling maternal love to the anger and sorrow of losing a daughter, the obsession toward revenge and the human conflicts hidden beneath it.
Lee Jung-eun joined the cast through her connection with director Kim Mi-jo, whom she met as a script supervisor and actress on the film 'Hommage.' Director Kim Mi-jo said she had Lee Jung-eun in mind from the planning stage and praised, "'Ok-sil' is a complex character who runs toward the ember in her chest to extinguish it but, being human, constantly trembles and struggles. Actress Lee Jung-eun irreplaceably completed even the rawness of her deep inner self."
Lee Jung-eun also said, "Even under the common goal of revenge, the thoughts of the mother and the daughters are each different. I paid the most attention to finding points that allow audiences to deeply empathize with and accept 'Ok-sil's' choices," raising expectations for the chemistry she will show with daughters Gong Hyojin, Park So-dam and Lee Yeon.
Meanwhile, 'Gyeongju trip' opens on Aug. 26.
