Actor Seo Inguk said he is completely different from the Kang Si-woo character in See You at Work Tomorrow!
Seo Inguk held a finale interview for the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama 'See You at Work Tomorrow!' (written by Kim Kyung-min, directed by Jo Eun-sol, planned by Studio Dragon, produced by Studio Dragon·KROSS Pictures) on the 29th at a cafe in Palpan-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
See You at Work Tomorrow! is a work that depicts an office romance in which Cha Ji-yoon (Park Ji-hyun), a seven-year office worker caught in everyday ennui, becomes each other's irreplaceable best with her prickly boss Kang Si-woo (Seo Inguk). It realistically portrays office workers who struggle between dreams and reality amid repetitive daily life and fierce company life, telling the story of young people who grow in both work and love.
Seo Inguk met viewers as Kang Si-woo, a face genius who has everything except personality and is Cha Ji-yoon's direct superior. Seo Inguk, who has shown deadly charm that captured women's hearts in various romances such as Reply 1997, High School King of Savvy, Shopping King Louie, The Beauty Inside, and Doom at Your Service, delivered thrill as a 'Seo Inguk-style rom-com' by portraying a three-dimensional character who is cold and blunt despite his handsome looks, tall physique and textbook self-discipline.
About Kang Si-woo, Seo Inguk said, "There were many parts I couldn't understand. A life where everything revolves around work is so impressive and admirable and was something I couldn't understand. Everything is related to work until falling asleep, including the home appliances at home. While I wondered if that could really be a life, I also wondered what fun there could be in it. But since Seo Inguk himself is not like that, I couldn't understand it. Still, I admired it," he said.
Seo Inguk, who said there is not even '1' of Seo Inguk in Kang Si-woo. So did he refer to the original webtoon? Seo Inguk said, "Works with originals include Cafe Minamdang, EJAE is going to die soon, and See You at Work Tomorrow!, but I first liked the original of EJAE is going to die soon and then it became a drama. The script and the original are adapted more than expected. The gap between comics or novels and the practical differences when I have to act is large. When adapting closer to reality, I know the original so well that I often get confused between the script and the original. I kept having questions, so when building the acting and character I had to fight a lot of times, and I felt it was unnecessary work, so I try to build the character by respecting the original as much as possible while fitting the script as much as possible. I think there's a parallel universe. I express it thinking there is another parallel universe," he said, revealing his own firm philosophy.
After his previous work Boyfriend on Demand, Seo Inguk challenged another office piece. He said, "I didn't think I had to do a lot with costumes. I tried to express the person himself in neutral colors. I tried not to show emotions, tone, or expressions outwardly in situations and to feel them internally," and added, "The starting point of the Boyfriend on Demand character can be similar to See You at Work Tomorrow!. The character worked well with just a touch and had no blood, tears or emotions, and Kang Si-woo was also a 'Samno man.' While the starting point may be similar, the ways these people want to act are different. In Boyfriend on Demand there is meticulousness only in work, but it cannot follow Kang Si-woo. Kang Si-woo's life itself is meticulous. If you ask whether there is any resemblance to Kang Si-woo, there is not at all. I cannot live like Kang Si-woo. Kang Si-woo lives a routine life, and Boyfriend on Demand is just someone who loves their work," he said.
He will meet viewers through three consecutive office pieces up to his next work, Company employee who sees fate. Seo Inguk said, "It's not intentional that I'm doing office works in succession. It's happening because it's fun. The next work is also an office piece but the setting is different. This time the character has supernatural powers and there is a storyline of rising from the bottom. In the previous work the PD was running at the top rank and was responsible, but in the next work there's a story from before entering the company. The way he gets through it is actually close to fantasy. It's an office piece but it has fantasy elements so I think it will be different. People say they want to see a rough character, and I think there might be glimpses of that," he said.
