That day Ko Ji-yong said on his social account that he had divorced Heo Yang-im two years ago. Ko Ji-yong said, "The reason I did not disclose this until now was because I wanted to protect our son Seung-jae so he could accept the situation fully and grow up steadily."
Ko Ji-yong said, "The divorce was a decision made to respect each other's paths and to fulfill our responsibilities as adults. Seung-jae understands the new relationship between his mother and father, and he is doing well and stable now," adding, "I will continue to do my best as a father, and although we have separated as a couple, we support each other and are getting along well."
After Ko Ji-yong revealed the divorce belatedly, his agency said, "It is regrettable that Ko Ji-yong had to announce such an extremely personal matter, but we confirm again that he simply chose to protect his child and there were no other reasons. Nevertheless, if rumors or speculative stories about the family arise, the company will take legal action to protect the family."
Ko Ji-yong married family medicine specialist Heo Yang-im in December 2013. They have a son, Seung-jae, born in 2014.
