Actor Hwang Jung-min, who is drawing attention with his leading role in Hope approaching 4 million viewers, has been embroiled in allegations about his private life. Regarding this, his agency quickly released a statement saying the actor is a victim of stalking crimes and warning that maliciously edited posts will face additional legal action.
Earlier, on the morning of the 29th, posts exposing Hwang Jung-min's private life were published across various social media platforms and online communities. On the exposer A's personal SNS, she claimed she had an inappropriate relationship with Hwang Jung-min and posted screenshots of messenger conversations and telephone call records between the two. The authenticity of the content uploaded to that SNS has not been verified. Nevertheless, A's one-sided claims spread rapidly and widely, and some outlets reported that A was a "longtime fan".
The unverified allegations about Hwang Jung-min's private life grew uncontrollably, and that afternoon the agency Sam Company spoke out with its first statement.
Sam Company said the author of the malicious posts related to Hwang Jung-min is a suspect in stalking crimes who has continuously harassed Hwang Jung-min.
It added that Hwang Jung-min filed a criminal complaint against the author. The court imposed provisional measures such as a restraining order against the suspect three times and, recognizing the stalking charge, issued a summary order imposing a fine of 300,000 won. Sam Company said it plans to take additional legal action against maliciously edited posts.
Currently, the film Hope, in which Hwang Jung-min stars, is in its third week since release, and the lead actors are still doing stage greetings and engaging with audiences. In this situation, because a lead actor's private life issue could potentially damage box office performance, the agency appears to have issued a prompt explanatory statement. Hope recently surpassed 3.6 million cumulative viewers and is steadily heading toward 4 million.
Meanwhile, Hwang Jung-min delivered a powerful performance as Beom-seok, head of the Hopo Port branch office, in Hope.<
