The Coupang Play series The Affair Was Just The Beginning is a black comedy of serial collisions in which a popular influencer couple who sold the image of a happy family and a neighboring married doctor couple locked in a muddy divorce lawsuit become entangled in an uncontrollable secret that makes even an affair seem trivial. Events that make even an affair seem trivial occur one after another before the two neighbors who seemed perfect, producing unpredictable twists. Each episode will deliver unimaginable fun by wryly twisting startling developments and a runaway story.
Director Lee Chang-hee of 'Killer's dilemma' and 'Strangers from hell' raised the level of completion with delicate direction, and producer Kim Ji-yeon and director Hwang Dong-hyuk's Firstman Studio, which sparked a global syndrome through the mega hit Squid Game Season series, are producing, raising expectations.
In the drama, Kim Hye-soo (playing Kyung-hee) and Kim Ji-hun (playing Jae-hong) portray the influencer couple, and Cho Yeojeong (playing Su-jeong) and Kim Jae-cheol (playing Bo-seong) portray the cold neighboring doctor couple undergoing a divorce suit. The four actors densely portrayed characters with their own desires and secrets, completing tense relationships, and their overwhelming acting synergy promises intense entertainment.
To the question "I heard you looked up a lot of real influencers because the character is an influencer," Kim Hye-soo said, "I looked up many domestic influencers and actively used them," adding, "I referred to the image of successful influencers, and we actually produced and used outerwear, appearance, costumes and such for the drama. My staff really liked this project. Thanks to them working passionately and freely, Kyung-hee's outer image seems to have been completed," expressing gratitude.
Kim Hye-soo said the character she wanted to play most after reading the script was Jae-hong, played by Kim Ji-hun. "While reading the script, I laughed most at the scenes where Jae-hong appears. I was curious who would play this character, so I asked the director. They say every role has an owner, and the Jae-hong completed by Kim Ji-hun seems innocent and very simple but also expresses psychological and multilayered aspects," she said, adding, "He well expressed his own conflicts that come from wanting to stand tall as a father and husband but repeatedly missing the mark. I was surprised on set. Viewers will see a new face and a performance they've never seen from actor Kim Ji-hun," she praised without reservation.
Kim Hye-soo also added, "When Jae-hong was actually caught on the monitor, the female staff were laughing. So I thought, 'It's done.'"
Meanwhile, The Affair Was Just The Beginning will be released for the first time on Coupang Play at 8 p.m. on the 31st.
