Actor Yoon Kyung-ho opened up about his chemistry with So Jisub and Choi Dae-hoon, with whom he collaborated on Manager Kim.
On the 27th, at a cafe in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, an end-of-series interview with Manager Kim actor Yoon Kyung-ho was held.
Yoon Kyung-ho played the role of Park Jin-chul in the drama, revealing a new charm by adding weighty action on top of wit. He captivated viewers by showing a deft performance in serious action while not losing his cheerfulness.
When asked for his thoughts on Manager Kim ending successfully, Yoon Kyung-ho opened his mouth with "What should I say?" and brought laughter to the set. He turned the credit over, saying, "I wondered if I could ever receive so much love in my life; I felt like this would never come again. I felt grateful. On the other hand, this is not something one person can do alone; it is the fruit achieved by the actors and staff."
Yoon Kyung-ho said, "I am grateful to everyone and feel celebratory. On the other hand, it feels like a time to control this heated feeling. I was afraid that being intoxicated by this feeling might hinder the next step, so I thought I should return to the beginning and calmly spend this time; it felt miraculous and undeserved."
This year alone, Yoon Kyung-ho has been active in multiple works, including "The Legend of Kitchen Soldier", Manager Kim, "HUMINT", METHOD ACTING, The Ultimate Duo, and Husbands in Action. It is not an exaggeration to call it the "era of Yoon Kyung-ho."
In response, Yoon Kyung-ho expressed, "Every moment feels so miraculous, and each time I try to keep myself in check. Every morning I search my name, read comments, and there are so many exciting and grateful messages that make me want to reply. I humbly accept words of criticism and observed how people view me now." He added, "As someone who prepares for every project with the same determination, receiving continuous love makes me feel like I'm walking on air. If luck exists, it seems to be the moment that is staying with me now."
What efforts did he make to prepare for the role of Park Jin-chul while preparing for Manager Kim? He said, "I cannot dress it up with fancy words. At the time I was cast in Manager Kim, I literally did not have the time to prepare. Even so, I was so grateful that they gave me this role. As someone who had been waiting for a role, I was so grateful that they found me."
He explained, "Although I lacked time to exercise whenever I could, I asked myself what I could do well. In fact, I had done boxing for about four years since my theater days. While practicing, I trained with the stunt coordinator for the main action scenes. For the container action scene fighting Manager Nam, I paid attention and trained because I wanted the difficulty to be higher than a one-versus-many action."
He even said he did not use a body double. Yoon Kyung-ho laughed, "I tried to do it without a double on set. There was such a weight difference between us. It would have been difficult to find a double with my build. Half by my choice, half by circumstances, I had to perform it myself. I trained to raise the action difficulty."
A major reason for Manager Kim's popularity was the friendship among the three—So Jisub, Choi Dae-hoon, and Yoon Kyung-ho. Asked about his rapport with the two actors, Yoon Kyung-ho said, "Jisub hyung and I worked together on "The Battleship Island" and "Alienoid." Choi Dae-hoon is my age, and we also worked together on the drama "Confession." Daehun's wife is also an actor. She is not active now, but we met briefly in theater. I met his sister-in-law first and then got to know Daehun. Their eldest child is also the same age, so we get along well."
Yoon Kyung-ho said, "When The Trauma Code: Heroes on call did well, Daehun congratulated me, and when When Life Gives You Tangerines did well, I called to congratulate him. I was happy as if it were my own when Daehun received an award. Jisub hyung was also someone I was grateful to, but I didn't have an opportunity to talk in his previous works, so I wanted to be the lubricant between the two of them, and the chemistry was so good."
Yoon Kyung-ho recalled, "Later in the latter half, I really felt like we were friends. Jisub hyung is playful. Since his roles are serious, he would throw funny material at us and tell us to do it. He read fortunes for us."
He added, "In the very last scene fighting in the cell, the role itself was painful, but the idea that the one throwing real punches was So Jisub made it resonate, mixing emotions beyond acting. Walking out wearing glasses really made me laugh. Even thinking back, I wonder if such chemistry could have come out if it weren't for them; it felt miraculous."
